    135 Planar 3.5

I am considering getting an outfit that includes what used to be a 135 Planar 3.5. The elements have been removed from the Compur Electronic #1 shutter. Short of finding a set of Planar elements, what other 135mm lens element set would fit with or without an adapter? I used to have a 135 Symmar about 50 years ago.

Good luck finding "just the 135mm elements" that will fit. You'll be better off selling the Compur -- people are always looking for working shutters -- and buying a used 135mm that meets your needs. Plenty to choose from.

But, if you are "married" to this electronic shutter -- good luck finding "just the 135mm elements" that will fit.

OP, any lens cells that are direct fits in a Compur/Copal standard #1 will fit the shutter.

If you must have a 135, at the moment there's a 135/5.6 Boyer Saphir BX in barrel on ebay.fr (404177343278). Boyer sold Saphir BXs as enlarging lenses but their prescription is the same as that of Boyer's Zircon, sold as a taking lens. Plasmat types, convertible and a little better than the first generation of plasmat type Symmars. I have a 105/5.6 and a 150/5.6 BX that I mounted in #1s. Both are better than good enough, but since I shoot 2x3, not 4x5, you can rightly ask what I know.

If that won't do for you, hold on to the shutter and wait for a lens in barrel or broken shutter that will fit a #1 and meets your needs to turn up.

One concern about using different elements in that shutter is the f-stop scale. It may not be a match for the "new" elements that you add to it.

I will be shooting 6x12 with a couple of Linhof Techno Rollex's. The original planar was in the mount for the Linhof Aero Technika 45EL, so want to keep it at 135 to use the mount.Click image for larger version.

Done this before: you can determine the actual f-stop by trial and error. Besides it is not critical when shooting B/W.
