    I don't suppose you'd like to give a more specific location for this? I've stayed in Cortez, taken US550 north to Ridgway, then back down SR 145 to Cortez. There's some nice stuff up there, but nothing like this... although I realize timing is everything. My notes say to look again at SR 145 from Cortez to Rico...

    Looks more like the Maroon Bells to me, but what do I know?

    The important thing is that there are a ton of places, just like that, all over the Rockies this time of year.

    The Cherohala Skyway is another route in that area to check out. Nearby there is North River road that tracks along the North River for quite a few miles thats worth a look. That connects to River Road where you can find Bald River Falls, Baby Falls and the Tellico River Gorge where it meets the Skyway. Get on a map program and explore the roads around the area.

    Go straight north

    to Shawnee National Forest https://www.fs.usda.gov/shawnee

    and stop at Giant City https://giantcitylodge.com/
