Hi all,
Looking for some advice on how to remove some fungus on a few Aero Ektar 178mm f2.5 lenses I have recently acquired. These are both yellow dot and non-yellow dot Aero-Ektars.
The only red flag I have found when opening the lenses is some fungus and haze on the elements of the lens. Naturally, I want to get this out and off the glass before any further damage (etching) is done.
So what is the most effective way to do this for these lenses? Obviously, I don’t to leave the coating on the glass as untouched as possible. As far as I can find, the yellow dot is a 1944 lens and the non-yellow dot is from 1942, but I do not know if either has any coating I need to be mindful of.
I have read suggestions of 99% isopropyl alcohol, human salvia and a 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia can all do the job, but there does not seem to be a sure and fast means that the community can agree on for the job on a less the age of these Aero-Ektars.
So here I am asking for any insight, advice and information on what method I should use.
