"Dark box" idea for adaptation to changing bag?

I happened on this video today, of a :

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yso_QxvbL4

It looks ingenious and probably relatively simple to design & build by anyone with basic building skills (not I). It occurred to me that something like it could be designed on a smaller scale to work with one's backpack or bag, to provide a changing bag for film loading/unloading when traveling. The commercially produced tents are costly (though, yes, a long-term investment, good for those who travel a lot or lack a darkroom at home); changing bags lack a height insert to keep the roof off the holder/film. Light-tight sleeve/cuff openings would still be necessary.

Anyway, just a thought in case someone with skills might run with it and post back ideas.

When I was using a changing bag addressed this problem by making a simple cube out of half inch PVC pipe. The joints are not glued so the cube would be assembled inside the bag and disassembled for flat storage.

I have an Adorama Film Changing Room that comes in handy but is a bit small.
I am a petite female with smallish hands, so this might be a hassle for a photographer with larger hands.

The Harrison Changing Bag (Large) I use with a cardboard box on its side gives me more room.

The changing 'box' in your video is interesting, as it is a better alternative to the bag and box I use for size and storage.
The only problem for me is I can sew, but I cannot build with wood and power tools, but I wish I could!
Thank you for sharing. I cannot wait to read the replies.

Darr, the Adorama looks interesting. My hands are not large, and the dimensions look reasonable for 4x5work. Thanks.

    You are welcome, Philip.
It does okay for 4x5, but anything larger would be too small for me.

    Best to you,

i've been planning (procrastinating) to make something similar out of a suitcase or something for years. it would be smaller though, more like a standard changing bag with sleeves, but with a tablet mounted to the top so i can use the camera and some infrared leds and develop pan or colour film by inspection.

I like the idea--it's portable, and looks inexpensive. I made a dark box out of black foam board with 2 arm holes and a sliding door that has light seals (180 degree turns), but it isn't portable. It only cost around $5. I'd like to see if there's an easy way to make it fold up/unfold--it would depend on using black out fabric for the hinges... Perhaps black out curtain fabric.

ha that is me in the video. i built it almost 10 years ago when there is fewer options for a wetplate darkbox.

I have another video detailing the build if you are interested.
