    XRAY Film & Thornton's 2-Bath

    For 2-Bath, it's quite versatile...

Andrew, did you mix a new batch of Part A for each negative or were you able to use the original batch multiple times? Was your X-ray film single sided?

I used the same Part A batch for several sheets. Film is double-sided green.

Nice video Andy, TFS. What was your EI for this film-developer combination?

The density readings in the video left me a little confused - base fog was 0.34 but shadow density (Zone 3) was 0.24.

Thanks, Raghu. I used EI 250. I now use EI 200.
The base fog is a little high as this film has been in my freezer since 2007. After zeroing out the base fog reading, my Zone 3 is 0.24. That reading is too low for my liking, so EI 200 gives me a Zone 3 density more to my liking. Hope this helps!

Hello Andy, that makes perfect sense, thanks. Regarding base fog, since you have used D-23 previously for developing X-ray film, I was wondering if the high base-fog you observed with B2B is mostly due to the second bath. Of course if you noticed similarly high based fog with this aged film when using D-23, then this possibility is moot. Do you have any comments based on your observations?

Whoops! My bad! The info I shared with you is for HP5! I've been working with it all day and got my wires crossed. Sorry! The XRAY I used for the video is pretty fresh. The B+F if I recall, was a bit lower with D-23 1+1, than B2B (I like B2B and will use it from now on ) I'm not sure if the higher B+F was due to the second bath, though... but probably. Once again, sorry for the confusion!
