in a lot of situations people without the. baggage of rules and regulations sometimes have a better way of doing things. regarding photography most of the "photographic rules" seem to be someone else's imposing their "my way or the highway" rather than allowing people
    to do what they want.

Yes, the second has a nice ring to it.
At least with the tag 'Artiste,' you don't get suspected of taking school portraits for a living.

Right but why stop at "Alan Klein, Artist"? I mean at least toot your horn. Something like:

    Alan Klein, Great Artist
No weddings, bar mitzvahs or supermarket openings

The success of those who can create genuinely great art is often restricted by rules imposed by those who rarely create. However, many of those rules guide artists away from wasting their effort in fruitless pursuits. Yet, we cannot create new art by blindly following old rules. I envy the cave artists of many thousand years ago, who may have been free from the conundrum of rules.

Why, oh why has this devolved into yet another "what is art" ramble??

I agree but that sort of dissonance will get you rejected from the community of people calling themselves "fine art" photographers. On the other hand that's probably a good thing - a badge of honor in a way.

Well, Photography has been considered one of the arts. AI and PS might take it out of that realm for many. So, you have to define art before you can discuss what's going to happen to it.
