I like xtol. It's easy to use. It's very sharp. It gives fine grain. It gives consistent results. The only drawback is that you have to be patient and add part B of the powder very gradually when mixing. Also, it lasts a long time.

Of all the common "conventional" developers, Xtol seems to have the best balance of grain vs sharpness vs emulsion speed. Plus it is one of the most environmentally-friendly. I used to use D-76 and HC-110 before switching to PMK; Xtol outperforms both of those. Using it replenished seems really interesting too.
