I was free to paint only the last two of the six darkrooms I improvised over several decades. By then it was easy to make do with whatever preexisted.

I'd run some masking tape...starting at the left corner of the enlarging table (but away from the back wall an additional six inches), running the tape up to the ceiling, and do the same for the wall section behind the enlarger (in other words, from the back right corner of the enlarging table, but extended to the right about six inches), and run that tape up to the ceiling. Then... pull the enlarger table away and run tape from the bottoms of the first two tapes so that they join in the corner, and finally stretch a tape from the top of each of the first two (vertical) tapes out until they join each other in a new "corner" on the ceiling above (and a bit to the right and in front of) the right corner of the enlarging table. Now - paint everything within the taped section FLAT black. You'll be glad you did!
Oh...and don't forget to (carefully!) pull off that tape when you're done! Then again, if that tape is also flat black, I suppose you could just leave it...ha!
Yes, I am concerned with a gloomy darkroom as well as light reflecting off the ceiling and effecting the enlargement. I am going to paint tomorrow and have decided to go with a medium gray, including the ceiling. I got a couple of light green storage cubes from Ikea for $10 bucks and I hope they add some cheer when I hang them over the sink. I will post the results when I am finished.

Looks good, you're going to need to bring in some cut flowers from time to time, just a little color :-)
I think I will hang some color pictures. I grow veggies and not flowers.
I am realizing this morning that I probably will not be needing the Gralab timer. I prefer to use an old Kodak wind up timer and it is a nice red!
