    Thomas Duplex Safelight Bulb Replacement

I've had the same bulb installed for 6 years, it finally blew... replaced it with a bulb from freestyle and 5 days later the bulb blew. At this point I am unsure if the socket is faulty and I certainly do not possess the ability to replace or repair a socket with soldering etc. I am curious if this safelight can be used with an LED replacement bulb. Thoughts?

That bulb is available at a very reasonable price as a street light bulb. Identical to the official version. Search by the bulb numbers on the bulb.

I have a spare transformer you can have if pay postage. Not sure if that is your problem. The bulbs are supposed to be rated for 18,000 hours or something like that.

Was talking to a friend… last week when I swapped bulbs I didn’t wear gloves. He thinks the bulb blew from my oil. Valid or not?

Oil from your hands certainly can be valid.

    Hi,

Would be good to know what number works since searching by '327817' of the one on Amazon only yields the out-of-stock Philips version. However, trying 'SOX35 low pressure sodium bulb' I did find this one: https://www.bulbworks.com/light-bulbs/SOX35 and at a reasonable price. It looks like it's actually in stock, and they're located in NJ. It's listed as Thomas Safelight compatible but is T17 whereas the Philip is a T15 style bulb.

JB Harlin did a blog post several years ago re; relamping (with a different transformer etc) his Thomas. The goal was a dimmer version of the "Super" for a small darkroom, IIRC.
