Linhof Technica III (mk 5) and Nikon Nikkor SW 65mm /4 lens question

    Hi Everyone

I have a question regarding the Liinhof Technica III and Nikkor SW 65mm lens.

I have the option to purchase the said lens, but according to my research there may be a problem using the lens with the Technica. The distance between lens and film plane is too short for the camera.

There appear to be modified (recessed) lens boards available to address the problem, but those seem to be fitted for the Technica IV.

Do anyone have experience with the above situation. Is the lens not usable at all (e.g. impossible to focus), or is it possible to focus, but not possible to adjust any of the focus planes.

    Thank you.

You need the long discontinued Technika lll Wide Angle Focusing Device and a Technika lll 2x3 lens board.

Thank you very much Bob.. it looks as if it may be a good idea to wait on purchasing such a lens until I am able to locate one of those devices.

I saw a discussion about this a few years back on another forum. As I recall, it's unlikely that the 65mm lens can be used; they recommended (I believe) a focal length minimum of 75mm, and then with limited movement. I just looked on eBay and saw a used recess lens board for a III, and the price in $US was 97+ from Great Britain. A 65mm lens is quite wide, and unless stopped way down, you may even need a center filter.
    Best,
    Dennis

    Thank you Dennis

This was more or less what I suspected. I think I will keep an eye out for a 90mm instead.
