No notch Film identification

Hello All,
My wife and I belong to a historical society and have discovered a large collection of negatives. Some have the notches to identify the type of film and other have the edge markings. And yes, some say nitrate and will treat them accordingly.

We have some others I cant identify.
The dimensions are 6-3/8 inch by 8-3/8 inch. No notches but does have a small hole at the top right corner. The base isn't as clear as the Kodak nitrate but more of a milky or frosted appearance. Kind of like the ground glass on the back side of the LF camera. The photos seem to be from the late 1920's to possibly the early 1940s. All are B&W and the majority are portraits of people...or cemetery burial shots. Any help in this identification would be appreciated. We are in the process of scanning all these negatives.

Some of your description suggests the negatives without notch codes may be from film packs, but that is not a certainty.
