After going without a darkroom for 6 years and with the good intention of installing a new darkroom I finally got around to getting it done. That was just a little over a year ago but I never got around to posting about it here. I started with a spare bedroom that measures 11x12 not including a small walk in closet. I started by clearing out the room of all stored and boxed darkroom items in order to clear the way for the transformation.

I ripped out the existing carpet and pad and prepped the concrete for laying down an epoxy coating. I did not go with the cheaper garden variety epoxy coating you get at Lowes or Home Depot but went with a better product that I had used before on the garage floor in my previous home. I ordered it in medium gray, about a Zone V for you diehard "Zonies."

I designed a layout plan first based on the space I had and the fact that the spare bedroom I chose and used shared a common wall with our master bathroom and access to hot and cold water and drain. Once I settle on the details I got busy. I built my own sinks using 3/4" plywood and water proofed it using the same epoxy coating I used on the darkroom floor. The sinks are made up of two separate sinks joined together: the main sink is 7 ft and a smaller 3 ft print washing sink. I left 2 ft of space at the far left end of the main sink to build and install a film drying cabinet. Still to come! (I know, I have been slacking but its going to be built real soon!)

I custom built all of the sink cabinets, print drying racks, enlarger cabinets and counter top myself including the vent "hood" hovering over the sink area which includes to exhaust fans and LED viewing lights installed underneath. I had posted a photo of my darkroom in the "show me your darkroom" thread and there was a question about where the plumbing was. It's there and the following photos should answer the question. I hope you enjoy my personal darkroom.
