Thank you so much for all the effort you put in making me understand, I get it now! For some reason, I was thinking like the knob for tilt and that for rise/fall would friction on each other, but no: the tilt knob frictions against the end of the hollow bolt, which is made longer such that the rise/fall knob is sufficiently far away from its end that the two knobs won't touch each other. Your drawing is excellent, but it is missing the slotted piece, right? Anyway, I got exactly what you meant now and I will try to implement for my own design.
