I shot this diner on an early morning in the late 80s. I think it was the morning of the stock market crash -- '87, '88 or '89? Can't remember. Tri-X 4x5, Calumet monorail, 90mm Nikkor f8 lens. This is an Epson V700 scan of the neg. I messed with it in Photoshop Elements to boost local contrast. I've never been able, with my skill set, to produce a decent darkroom print. The neg is a bit underexposed or underdeveloped. I remember not wanting to blow out the interior detail. The scanned image has more snap and pop, or maybe that's just the backlight of the monitor screen. The diner was in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. I think the structure is still there, but it's no longer a diner.

I like the image , Ben. By looking at the image and before reading through the story I could not help but wonder "how lucky you were to capture the old truck by the diner".
If the diner is no longer operational, it could still make another interesting picture and turn the already great image into a diptych

Thanks, Sergey. That's a good idea. I think it might still be a restaurant, but not called Bone's Diner. Might be worth another road trip to see how it looks decades later.

Thank you for that link. Glad to know the history. Had no idea they were pre-fab structures.

My appology if I’ve posted any of these before.

Here are a few images from the archive. The timespan ranges from the early 70’s, railroad workshop, to around 2006 for the image of the feet, hearts and hands at St Roch Church in New Orleans and the gentlemen on the mill porch in 2014.

    Re: Americana

After more than a decade without a large format camera, I found a Graflex Crown Graphic and this is one of the first images I made with it. The lens is the typical Wollensak Optar 135mm f/4.7. 100th of a second at f/16 on FomaPan 100 developed in HC-110 1+79.

It had an Americana vibe, in my opinion.
