Paper negative in whole plate holder?

I recently bought a Seneca whole plate camera that came with some Kodak whole plate holders that have the 5x7 inserts in them. Can I use paper with these in 6.5x8.5? I tried putting it in the bottom of the holder and half my paper has fallen out of the holder. Is there some modification I need to make?

using paper worked in my holders, Pat no 4-2307. One edge has a sort of spring to it to hold the glass plate in place, I found a piece of paper could slip under this piece to help it be held in place.
