I took a few one-week hikes up in the Glacier Peak Wilderness back in the early 70s. Beautiful country -- always surprised to run out of trees and onto glaciers at such low elevations!

I remember starting out in the deep Red fir forests and hiking slowly up and then over a pass in the fog above the treeline at around 4000 feet (White Pass, I think).
The wilderness in northern CA I worked in barely got high enough for much of a timberline. One of its higher peaks just off to the right...the tallest in the wilderness being straight ahead in the distance (Black Rock Mtn and North Yolla Bolly Peak). The Trinity Alps are over North Yolla Bolly's shoulder, and snow-covered Mount Shasta is off in the distance.
