More women are getting into photography

More women seem to be getting into LF photography and participating in this forum lately. I gave a talk at the "career day" at a local high school this week, and the girls interested in careers in photography outnumbered the guys about two-to-one in all three sessions. And of the artists represented by the Yossi Milo Gallery in NY (a leading contemporary photographic art venue), about half are women. There have always been women at all levels of photography, but not in this kind of proportion.

As my sweetie likes to say, "The Goddess is alive and magic is afoot!"

More women are getting into photography

In my old age, I now teach photography in a large high school. Girls comprise just over 52% of my students and they are far more likely to express an interest in photography as a career.

    My wife just slaps me...
    Politically, aerodynamically, and fashionably incorrect.

More women are getting into photography

In college at OU, in the comercial photo sequence there always seemed to be a fair amount more women than men.

More women are getting into photography

When I taught the Beginning Photography course in the College of Fine Arts at a large state university the class was always comprised of about 13 women and 1 or 2 men. And since that course was a prerequisite to all other photography courses the proportions stayed about the same in the other courses. I don't remember there being any men at all in the photography MFA program.

It seems to me that in the late 70`s early 80`s at RIT, we had about 25% women in the photo program. Don`t know how it is there now...

See, what happened is that SOMEBODY let the cat out of the bag that we [women] could come out of the kitchen and the world WOULD NOT cease to turn on it's axis.

    LOL!!

p.s. I think all wives slap their husbands. It's a rule that once you guys put that ring on, you loose all capacity for rational thought and we have to knock some sense into you on occasion ;-)

If you've seen "Lost in Translation" you'll know that "All girls go through a photography stage". It's like boys and dinosaurs.
