Have you looked into push button quick threading nuts ?
They're not too expensive but work very well.

McMaster carries them, the link is for the hex style.

Rafa knows this camera. 4x5, 47mm F/5.6 S/A, focusing helix, optical finder & ground glass back.

    Attachment 144153

Will be up for sale in March - then the 8x10 version. This ain't no Hobo.
A beauty! The helical focuser is from telescope technology? Orion probably carries some 2" diameter helicals...

How do the jaws spring to close? I see the clip is pressing them open because there may be an axle below the piece of black tape...a spring between the bottom (squeezed) legs?

Yes, there is an axle under the tape. The paper clip just slides up to clamp the jaws around the threads. Other than being bulky, the only drawback is the clip can be lost. It wouldn't be hard to add a safety string to it.

Camera shops usually have a bin of broken lens. I salvaged a focusing helix from an Olympus OM 50mm and adapted it to fit LF lens.

Interesting approach! Of course, the clamp from Home Depot posted above would also work, and may be more easily attached permanently or chained to it... Will remember.

I had no idea such a thing existed! You made my day, thank you.

And el french's idea is right-on. Great thread. I might just clear the workbench today.

It came from a Brooks Veriwide. (Not the Plaubel version). I have one left for the next version. I will look into Orion. Thanks!
