    10x10 "reducing" back?

In theory how hard would a 10x10 back for my 8x10 tachi be to knock up?

I'd like to shoot a square format without getting a whole new camera if possible.

Not hard, same goes for the holders.

    Thanks Richard

I have absolutely no woodworking skills whatsoever.
Is there any individual or organisation who would be able to do it on commission?

It seems much more practical to go for 8x8.

You might reconsider once you get a quote from anyone who does this sort of work.

Richard Ritter would do a fine job.

Are you cutting down 11x14 film, or are you doing wet plates?
Anyway, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to make, just time consuming. S.K.Grimes would be the company to talk to.

I can see the appeal of square format stuff, and if you want to do it that large, you must be interested in contact prints? Or maybe you have a lens that's a litttle long for 8x8, but would be just right for 10x10.

I would be using it for wet plate stuff. I'm having a 10x12 (or maybe 11x14) camera made for me by my uncle (unsure which format... he hasn't told me yet!) I was just wondering if it was possible to get the back made for the tachi. I do understand 10x10 may be a little tricky perhaps 8x8 would be a better option. I do like square formats, A good alternative would just be to cut down some to 8x10, then cut off 1" off each long side and use that to hold the plate in place in my normal 8x10 holder (what's the term for that?)

A custom made reducing back may cost upwards of $600-$800 might as well just buy this...
