Drew Bedo selected for Four By Five Exhibition

Four of my images have been selected for the Four By Five Exhibition this fall in New Orleans. Sponsored by the New Orleans Photo Alliance, this show is juried by Steve Simmons and will display four images by each of five artists working in large format photography. The exhibition will be on display from Sept 6th through Nov 23rd.

. Acceptance to this show is a significant event for me. Perhaps a milestone. I am legally blind, and participate in a few events organized for visually impaired artists, usually associated with fund raising. This year I will have several images in the Shared Visions Exhibition sponsored by the Southern California college of Optometry at Mitchell B. Ketchum University in fullerton. In the past, I have participated in a similar event hosted by The Guild For The Blind in Chicago (now called "Second Sense"). Acceptance at these shows is not too rigorous. I am trying to transition myself away from being thought of as an artist-with-a -visual-disability. I would prefer to be known as an artist with a vision.

The importance of being selected to be in the Four By Five Exhibition for me, is that this event is a competitive and open call-for-art, hosted by a mainstream organization that is well respected in the art world. That the exhibition is juried by noted publisher and author, Steve Simmons, makes this even more significant for me.
