Epson v750 error - unable to allocate memory

Yes, I saw that this question was asked once before, but, here's an interesting twist. I stupidly decided to fix something that wasn't broken and installed the latest version of the Epson scan software. Yes, I use the Epson scan.

So, long story short, unable to scan a 4x5 neg at 2400dpi anymore. Yup, worked before the software upgrade, now it can't allocate memory. Nice. So, nothing else is running, I've followed instructions, uninstalled, reinstalled, basically, it'll scan at 1200dpi and that's it. Even scanning at 48bits, the resulting file size is only 675mb, so, it shouldn't be hitting the 2gb file size limit. Silverfast will scan at 2400dpi, but I'd rather wait hours for a drum scan than learn to use Silverfast.

Well, any suggestions for how to fix this will be appreciated!

(we can have the philosophical argument about scanning at 2400dpi, but that would be a waste of time. It used to work, now it doesn't, that's the only problem I want to fix right now).

Since we know absolutely nothing about your system (o/s name and version, computer make, model, and hardware configuration, amount of memory, old Epson Scan version, new Epson Scan version, etc), it's pretty hard to answer the question.

Do you get 32 bit and 64 bit versions?

Also, VueScan can be downloaded for free to see if it works. You can keep it straightforward enough (like Epson Scan) without going in to all the details.

No need... there are real benefits in scanning at 2400 and even higher

If you're using a Mac, did you repair disk permissions after uninstalling and before re-installing? I also use Epson Scan and while my problems was different, this worked when just uninstalling and reinstalling didn't.

I'm using Windows 7. I've got 16gb of RAM and over 1TB of free disk space. Hmm. Still searching for a solution.

Vuescan does work, so, I might just buy that and forget Epson Scan.

Can you post a screen shot of the Epson scanner settings? I too still use the Epson scan software with my v750 and just used it last night. Also on Win7 64bit with 16gig of ram. Also scanned 4x5 as well as 120 at 800, 1200, and 2400.

A side note... I find that the Epson software has issues if I have MS Outlook open at the same time. Odd but true.

I don't find that odd at all.

Memory allocation is the responsibility of the operating system.

Every time you load a new program, it requests some amount of memory, based on anticipated requirements.

Sometimes the full amount requested cannot be allocated in a single block, so multiple smaller blocks are allocated.
Different programs handle this situation in different ways.

Some programs that require large contiguous blocks, as for an image, might have problems.
