This Arsat lens is awfully unsharp at f8, put I liked both images for some reason ...

Twice you have posted a pair of similar pictures; my first thought was that you should have chosen one and posted that one. But maybe these pairs of pictures provide the opportunity to discuss which one we prefer, and, more important, why. I'll start. I have made reduced copies to keep a pair on one screen; hope you don't mind.
EDIT: Seems that uploaded images are displayed as thumbnails with no other option. Barely large enough to tie in with the discussion.
First pair.
I prefer the second one, because (a) the rounded outline of the left foreground fruit is a counterpoint to the angular shapes of the right foreground; (b) one can make out the spherical fruit on the left, veiled by the dry petals, and with a nice specular accent, also a counterpoint to the more visible fruit in the right.
Second pair
Here again I prefer the second one. In the first one the foam in the bottom left is fighting for attention with the object above (ice?), and they sort of cancel each other, in my eyes at least. In the second one, the oblique pattern of foam in the foreground is strengthened by a similar, but weaker and darker, pattern above.
Concur? Dissent?
Hi Bernard ! Many thanks for your analysis. Well, there is nothing special about these pictures.
For the first pair I spent some time with composition on the table. At first one both stems and vertical petal
look at upper left corner ( well, originally it was composed for 6x6 format ) and at the second both stems left and right are
"grounded" forming triangle with the central stem. In other words it is geometry in search of harmony...
For second pair I just wanted an abstract image, without any relation to the river. Although technically they are not very good
I like them.

That's my favorite among your recent postings. Simple and strong composition. Maybe not so simple after all. Three levels: the general diagonal, the protruding buttresses, and finally the texture of the foam. Don't care if the Arsat is better or worse than a Planar...
I'll follow up with a similar image of mine.

Following up on some images I recently posted, still on the theme of hydro power, this one, dating back to 2017, is of the Noyer-Chut dam on the Romanche river. This dam has since been demolished and the river returned to some natural state.
