Dilution check for HC-110

For tri-x 320 using HC-110 @ 320 its 3 1/4. Kind of short so is it safe to cut the dilution from 1:31 to 1:62 and double the time to 6 1/2? I'm worried I might not have enough developer in the tray. Im putting 800ml into a 6x9 tray so thats only 13 ml of concentrate. I normally do 8-10 at a time. I figured I would prob have to do it one shot for each batch. Does that all sound right or do I need to change anything?

Use the same amount of stock developer and put twice as much water in the tray. By doing so, you maintain enough stock developer to do the work.

I've standardized on dilution G (1+31 from stock) for years now with excellent results. Last I shot Tri-X 320, I exposed it at 200 and developed 24 min at 20º C. This was for a dozen sheets of 4x5 at a time in 32oz working strength developer.

I develop single sheets of 4x5 one at a time in a small drum, and I use 1.25ml of HC-110 syrup (concentrate) per sheet and never have any issues. I think the absolute minimum amount of chemistry required for 20 sq. in. of film is around one milliliter regardless of dilution, so 13ml for your 8-10 sheets should be plenty.

I use this same dilution and quantity in a beseler drum for 5x7 HP5. Works great!

My understanding for 4X5 sheet film and HC-110 is 6ml of the concentrated syrup will develop 4 sheets of 4X5 film [80 square inches]. To develop 12 sheets you would need a minimum of 18ml of the syrup. If you have diluted the concentrate to make a stock solution [1+3], you will need 75ml of the stock solution to develop 12 negatives. Dilution B from concentrate for 12 negatives; 20 ml of syrup + 620ml water. Dilution B from "stock"; 75ml of stock solution + 525ml of water. For Dilution H, 20ml of concentrate + 1260 of water; from stock 75ml + 1125 ml water. When I tray develop for Dilution H I split the developer between two trays and move my negative not from the bottom to the top of the stack, but from the bottom of tray 1 to the top of tray 2. There is one website that indicates 3ml is the minimum for 80 square inches, but I know 6ml will develop 12 sheets consistently and if you develop N+1, no adjustment to the concentration of HC-110 needs to be made for extra development.
