I am perplexed as to how you shot this at f90 yet there are no starbursts around the lights.

hmm. good question, and I don't think I have an answer. I have no doubt the lens was truly stopped down that far. Most of the light sources are line or area sources, not points, maybe that's the difference. The lens (shutter) has a 7 blade aperture.

Shielded lamps, as you noted, are a diffuse light source not a point source.

That's true but surely not every source of light was shielded.

I thought the starburst was an effect of the uneven circle? Perhaps with this aperture size and these blades the circular is almost perfectly round? Or am I understanding this incorrectly.

Glad to see that this thread hasn't gone extinct! Reaaaally need to start actually taking some LF night shots rather than just admiring them.

    Dang! That's a smart shot.

Mind posting the film and shot info? Any chance we can get you to talk about your BW process?

I put some info in the tags on Flickr

This is Acros 100, exposed through my Chamonix 045N-2 with a Nikkor-M 300mm f/9. I don't take exposure notes but I think this was 1 minute at f/16. I develop 4x5 in a Jobo 3010 tank on a CPP2. This batch was done using HC-110 dilution E for 6.5 minutes.
