    No misunderstanding!

I realise a totally wooden copy of the Linhof board would not be possible for the reasons given above.
The only modification of the board that I could think could be tasteful, is a different coloured anodised finish. And without the Linhof shield!

Why not paint the board to mimic the wood ?

I did make one out of 1/16" birch plywood, and veneered it. I could only veneer one side, as it would be too thick otherwise. It worked fine, but was just a tad curved. As these are going on a Chamonix, I'm not too worried about them fitting on a Linhof. I may make the next one out of 1/16" aluminum, or maybe carbon fiber. These would be in a simple rectangle. I also have some birds eye maple veneer I could use. I will try to up load some pics.

I have a few old lens boards for pre-Anniversary & Pacemaker Graphics made from two bits of metal because they've been adapted to use smaller shutters from borads drilled for much larger shutters. This makes them extremely rigid, I have made Linhof/Wista fit boards from plain aluminium but I think if I made one from wood I'd use a circular ing of aluminium on the inside to prevent flex and add that missing rigidity.

Find some funky shelf-paper for the front and be happy.
