  1. Re: Looking for advice on a used lens for an Intrepid camera

    18%gray,

You can also buy a bord from Intreprid. Their boards are affordable, light and stiff. Obviously, they fit perfectly to the camera.

    Abruzzi,

Thanks for sharing your point of view !

    Bernice,

The only concern I do have about buying abroad from ebay is simple as that : If I need to send the lens back, I'm still loosing 25%...

Thank you for your comment Bernice !

I did ask because I was not able to tell if this was important or not. I know that paint chipping off may not be a problem. But I had never seen some "paint...

Re: shutter choice for a newbie

    Hello again :-)

It took me quite some time to find a couple of lenses I'd want to buy. So I now have to make the final choice.

    On one side, I do have a Fujinon SW 90mm f8 with a Copal 0 model C...

Re: shutter choice for a newbie

    Tin Can,

Does this count for a "normal" shutter ? The pinhole does works. The 4x5 "holder" is made from 2mm thick carbox. I can choose between a .3mm or a .4mm pinhole for the shooting. And I have...

Thank you all for your advises !

Tin Can, I'll start modest with 4x5. Anyway, I'll try to think & buy a hat too :-)

BrianShaw, I'll keep that in mind.

    shutter choice for a newbie

    Hello all,

Shutters are at least as deep a sea as lenses are. Basically we have Copal, Compur, Seiko and probably some few others I have not yet heard of. 99% are mecanical spring based. A few...

    Seall,

This discussion is scary ! However, it would be as scary for me if it was about a non electronic shutter :-) Anyway, I get the point !

    Otto, 500€ is too high a price for me ! 250 - 300 €...

Re: A few advise before I dive !

    Alan,

The question about battery is not important. Original batteries for the Compur electronic are PX21 (4.5V) and can be found on amazon or specialised web sites if you dig a little. They are...

Re: A few advise before I dive !

    Corran,

I do shoot at 12 to 17mm on an Olympus E-M1, so basically a 24 to 34 mm equivalent on a full frame camera. 90mm on a 4x5 film will be good for me. I'll look for a 105 - 120mm as a second...

    Alan,

I had a phone call with the seller. He did test the shutter and provides a new battery with it. This only is a spoken word, but the question was asked and answered :-)

I try to do my homework before asking out :-) Yes the tax thing can be scary (after all, I'm in France :-) ) And yes, I think the lens is worth the price asked by the dealer.

you are right, I can easily find nice 90mm lenses on ebay in the 200-400$ range. However, as they mostly are from Japan, I will have import taxes and VAT applied. I understand that...

    A few advise before I dive !

I'm on my way to dive into 4x5 photography. I'll buy an Intrepid camera as it is light weight and inexpensive. So I won't hesitate to carry it in a back pack and go shooting outside...
