Welcome! Maybe I'll see you out there...
My Beseler base is uni-directional as well. After reading about experiences with streaking, I just started off flipping my tank every 5 minutes on long development times and 2 minutes on short...
Since I use a Windows Mobile PDA and can't find a program similar to the BTZS one that works on it, I just have the charts in spreadsheets for the films I use and then use the calculator.
That would a Grafmatic holder.
Hello from Seattle! Welcome!
I recently took a box of Acros Quickloads to Mexico and back with no hand checks (5 trips through the scanners) with no fogging problems.
Some more argyrotypes. All shot with a Leonardo 3" pinhole camera on 4x5 Acros @EI50 and developed in Pyrocat-HD 1:1:100. The pictures were taken at Emerald Bay, Mazatlan, Mexico on 10/28/08 at low...
Guilty! I bought a small petzval from Jim earlier this year and have yet to shoot with it. Weather permitting I'll be doing some shooting on Friday, so maybe I'll have something to post in a week or...
Right now, contact print, but I have a 5x7 enlarger in storage for when I finally have room to set up my own darkroom.
A couple more argyrotypes from last night's session. Once again both are 4x5 pinhole negatives (exposure time around 6 minutes on both) on Acros in Pyrocat-HD.
First 8x10 Argyrotype. I need to work on my sensitizer spreading, it's a bit uneven. Tonight was the first time I used puddle pushers instead of brushes. The 4x5s came out well (I'll scan and post...
lecarp - Very nice!
So far I'm toning in KRST because that's what I have on hand. I plan to try gold and palladium toning to see how it looks as well.
Sean - similar to this one?
Disclaimer - I have nothing to do with the linked auction.
Here's a second argyrotype. Full disclosure: The scan is much darker than the print. I need to work on this one some more, but this is how I envision a final print.
Pinhole image taken with a...
Nice work Marco, I think that Ziatype may have to be the next process I try down the road a bit.
Anupam - I like it, but I wonder if there's a bit more shadow detail in the print than in the scan?
PViapiano - just out of curiosity, how does one measure 1/2 drop of photoflo?
Not being at home I can't look over and list all the books on my shelf, but I do have a good half-dozen Alt Proc books already. :)
The print I posted is on Cranes Cover. I tried another on some...
I have a couple of 9x12 cameras that I haven't shot in a year or two, same for a 10x15. I mostly shoot my Shen-Hao 4x5 (and also have an adjustable mf pano back for it so I can go 6x9, 6x12 & 6x17 -...
That's the problem with alt processes... every time I see a beautiful print I want to try that process and then I never do any of them... That's why I finally settled on argyrotype to start with -...
Vaughn & Jim - Great carbon prints, that's a process I really want to try one of these days.
I miss the Nikon FM I got as my HS graduation present. It's metering system finally broke and since I had F, F3 and F100 bodies I pretty much had the spectrum of Nikon SLR mounts covered so I sold...
I think the cloud & boat reflections in the absolutely still water is what makes this image special. Excellent shot.
I'm embarking on a pinhole/zone plate/argyrotype project, so I thought I'd start a thread for Alt. Proc. images. I played around with Platinum/Palladium a few years ago, but with money getting tight...
Greetings from another Seattle resident!
I've never had my Majestic fully extended, but I recall when I bought it off eBay there was a picture of the guy on a stepladder next to it, probably 10' or so.
When I was involved in improvisational theatre, there was a saying that "the fewer choices you give an improvisor, the freer s/he becomes". I think that what Bruce is saying here is the photographic...
It sounds like it makes sense, but I've never tried so can't say. But if you want to one sheet at a time, the FR tank is a very inefficient way to do it. I assume you want to use a daylight tank...
Lots of people dislike these tanks, but I have been using them for years with no problems regarding uneven development or other issues. The tank cannot be turned upside down when agitating - the...
Leonardo 4x5 3" Pinhole Camera (f/250) @ 6 minutes. Acros @ EI 50. Pyrocat-HD 1:1:100 32.3 minutes (developed to be used for Argyrotype print). Film scan (Contrast adjusted).
I like them both for different reasons. The Symmar shot has a good sense of place while the Darlot shot has the 'mythic' feeling that I look for in a softer image. They both have their place, just...
LF in musicals -
Funny Face - Fred Astaire plays a variation on Richard Avedon (Avedon was a consultant on the film), several LF shooting scenes and darkroom scenes (that have nothing to do with...
I had this one about 2 months ago... Drive 3 1/2 hours across a mountain range and a desert, find the shot you were looking for, pull out the gear and set up only to find you forgot to replace the...
I've had the Da-Yi 6x17 back for a couple of years and while I don't use it an awful lot, I've had no problems with it the times I have. I have misplaced the masks for 6x9 and 6x12 though.
I have one up in the for sale section myself. In regards to focal length, while there is no FL listed on the front of the lens, the rear element is marked 7" (see the picture in my listing).
...
One of the main reasons I shoot large format is the ability to control the plane of focus. Whether that means total DOF or just a thin blade of focus through the image depends on what image I want...
My parents moved to Vermont right after I graduated from High School in 1979, and while I've taken many pictures there none are on LF gear :(
If you're interested, Mike, I have a B&J 8x10 that needs some fixing up (good cleaning, new bellows). All the movements you could ever want, the back pulls off and rotates. PM if you want some...
I use the 100mm 6.3 WF Ektar and haven't had much problem with coverage for movements. I think I can recall running out of rise/fall/shift once or twice, but they were extreme cases. In normal...
Here's a scan. It's a bit too contrasty and raw, but gives you an idea of what kind of light leak I had.
