The Schneider 110mm f/5.6 Super-Symmar XL is an excellent lens for going wide, but not ultra wide, on 5x7. Not inexpensive, but it is superb.

Another vote for Sprint developer. Great, easy to use developer.
On the other hand, you can easily stick with D76 and just throw out the remainder after 6 months. It remains very inexpensive.
I personally would have started with the normal lens then added a wide angle later, even if you intend to use it for landscapes. Formal architectural photography may in fact force use of a wide...
Interesting! That is precisely why I don't try to combine birding and bird photography. When I have in the past I ended up enjoying neither. I do carry a spotting scope in addition to my binocular...
I am heading to New Mexico next week and will stay for a week. Will be flying in and out of Albuquerque. Main purpose is photography (Landscapes etc.) and to a lesser extent birding (Not interested...
A Rodenstock 75mm f6.8 is quite reasonably priced if you can find one. 80 would be fine (I don't own one) if you can afford it. 90 is for me plenty wide and 90 mm f6.8 and f8 lenses are plentiful...
How much more generous is the image circle and coverage of the Rodenstock Sironar W 210 lens vs an older single coated Fujinon W 210 (mine is in a Seiko shutter) with the writing inside the the inner...
Sorry, but it does seem slow. The lenses forum has not had a "which focal length for 4x5" thread in a couple of weeks to which I would have jumped in "135 mm". All the site forums seem slow. I don't...
I wish I could join you at the Rock festival! Due to work commitments, I can not. Two of my colleagues at work are out at that time making things tight.
I stayed close to Ogunquit and went as far...
Great ideas all! Keep them coming.
I do appreciate my "backyard" for it's photographic possibilities and have indeed more keepers from Massachusetts, southern Vermont and the surrounding...
Any suggestions for destinations for photography. Basically a destination that would allow me to fly to it and enjoy a nice 3-4 day weekend photographing, generally a 3 day holiday weekend possibly...
Maybe too late I guess ,but I would vote for the Fujinon 90.
Sincerely,
Hany.
Another vote for the Pentax digital spot meter. Have Richard Ritter take a look at your Soligor meter first though, you may already have your meter but it just needs calibration.

Go for 135 mm, it is one sweet focal length, a gentle "wide normal". If I had to use only one lens then the 135 would be it.

Hany.

I believe the Nikkor 105 is designed to cover 6x9 (cm) and will not cover 4x5 comfortably. I think the Fuji 105 will just cover 4x5. If money is no object then 80, 110 (Schneider Super Symmar XL),...
I have rarely used Delta 100 in 4x5 the past but FP4+ is my standard film in 4x5 and 5x7 and HP5+ is my standard film in 8x10. Never had a problem with any of them. In my experience QA at Ilford has...
This comes as a shock and a moment of great sadness. I have gotten to know Ted for the last three years and have truly appreciated his friendship. His generosity, kindness and willingness to help...
Agree. Jim at Midwest photo particularly recommended. The lenses I have gotten from him have always been pristine and the prices are often less than on Ebay.

Hany.
I have the VX125 (the one with the full geared movements). I like it and often (but not always) use it instead of a field camera in the field. I often try to anticipate how much movements...
I shoot mainly landscapes and use my Fujinon 450C fairly often if I have the Canham with me (my only 4x5 with sufficient bellows draw). Mainly for tight shots of subjects I can't get close enough to....
Consider also the Chamonix 4x5 thru Hugo Zhang. It is hard to miss on this board. There is however a few weeks to months wait for the delivery.
Sincerely,
Hany.
A used field camera may be a better option if you can stretch your budget a little. A used Zone VI or Wista (under $600 used) or possibly a new Chamonix 4x5 (700 plus shipping) should be all you ever...
Trees are my second favourite subject after rocks and water. This image is from my second day ever of using a large format camera. Anba Ikeda 4x5, Caltar IIN 135 mm lens, Delta 100 developed in Tmax...
My first LF lens and still my favourite. A Caltar IIN 135 mm (basically a Caltar labelled Sironar N). Bought from Adorama with a mint Anba Ikeda 4x5 for $375 for the bundle. Absolutely tiny (40.5 mm...
Another vote for a 135 mm lens. A gentle wide that still remains my most used lens despite owning the 110 and 150 mm lenses. Any of the big 4 makers is fine. Do not hesitate about a Fujinon or...
I generally go for modern multicoated optics however a couple of years ago while at a local camera swap meet I picked up a C.P. Goerz Berlin 12.5 cm f6.8 (inscribed DAGOR 1:6,8 F=12,5cm 558539, the...
I usually do my own testing using my densitometer. Problem is since it is a regular densitometer I do have problems measuring the density due to stain.

Hany.
What EI do you use for FP4+, HP5+ and Fuji Acros in PMK pyro?
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Hany.
True. Lens choice does depend quite a bit on one's way of "seeing" and subject matter. I do still maintain that even with the grand vistas of the west the original poster will use a 90 mm lens far...
I would start with a 135 mm lens for landscapes. Add a 210 mm lens as your second lens. Then maybe add a 90 mm later. I do own a 75 mm lens but very rarely use it (too wide). The 58 mm and 47 mm...
Carbon fiber is light and convenient. My Gitzo with the Arca Swiss ball head is also super solid. I have never owned a wooden tripod but several of my LF friends use wooden tripods (mainly Zone VI)....
What system do you use to keep track of your N, N- and N+ exposed sheets? Post-it notes stuck to the holder? Individually numbered holders/sides with detailed records? Other method?
How do you...
I suspect that if you have an 8x10 elarger then you should be able to fit the EL Nikkor 210 lens, though it may be good to check first. BTW as alluded to above some people use it to enlarge 8x10....
Another vote for a Nikkor EL 210 enlarging lens. I got mine off ebay for about $120. It is a large lens (72 mm mounting screw if I remember correctly) and may not fit well on some enlargers.
...
210 mm is not too close to 150 mm. It is my second most used focal length after 135 mm. Moreover since it was, and remains, a very popular focal length for 4x5 there is easy availability of many used...
Another vote for a 135 mm lens. Any recent vintage lens by Rodentock, Schneider, Nikon or Fuji should be fine. It won't give you massive coverage for movements but should be enough for landscape...
Is there any source (preferably US based to reduce shipping cost) for readily available 13x18 B&W film? I have a mixture of 5x7 and 13X18 holders and may want to utilize all of them when going into...
What is the usable image circle for the 240 mm G-Claron vs the 240 Fujinon A? Camera would be an 8x10, will mostly be contact printed, but I will have the ability to enlarge 8x10 if I ever get to...
