I'd happily spend $5k for a 4x5 back and $10k for an 8x10 unit. I'd like them to be totally self contained - no computer needed. Ideally, they would have an off the shelf LiIon battery, an SD card...
IMHO, scratching typically come from some type of back-and-forth abrasive action. Since the metal portion of the holder always touches every negative in some way, it is a non-event. Therefor the only...
Larry,
The optical path of the 343 does not support larger that a 56mm (MF) width. So, do not cut any film holders for scanning LF films. Just use the 6x12 holder and shift the film between scans....
Do you freeze your film? If so, it could be remnants of emulsion from the edge of the film. I've had similar appearing lines on my chromes and they've been attributed to freezing the emulsion....
Aeron, without a doubt. I've had mine, for the workstation, for about seven years and it's great. Fatigue is never a factor, nor is a sore back. If you do order one, make sure to order the correct...
Here is a posting I made nearly eight years ago, on photo.net, after the announcement that Kodak was haulting production of their MF digital backs. I stand by my predictions.
"Unfortunately I feel...
I have several packs made by Kifaru. If one had protection (like a hard case, etc.) for one's equipment, than this might be the ticket:

I'm familiar with Ansel's Moonrise shot. I think it still would have been quicker to stitch the shot with a DSLR than to setup his 8x10 camera, install the filter, focus, etc.
I think Ansel's Hernandez shot would have been quicker to setup with a DSLR, for stitching, hence allowing more time for imaging before sunset. Also, setting the camera to bracket exposures would...
I happened to have lunch with Jack just a few weeks ago, where indicated that he hadn't shot LF in quite a while. He further indicated that his D3x stitched images look no different than a 4x5 scan...
Try Rosco polarizing filters over your lights - they come in 17x22 sheets, can be cut to size and should be mounted far enough from the heat to not melt. Then use a linear polarizer on the lens and...
I made do with one Speedotron 4800 WS Power supply with two heads, which was, IMHO, bare-bones for my 8x10 camera. Typically, I had to use multiple pops for still life shots. It was not usable for...
There is at least one app that acts like a light meter. According a the latest review, it used to work very well, but with the latest update, it is no longer functional with the iPhone 4. This issue...
Welcome from Port Jeff!
I own and have shot with a KS-8. The limits of my shooting have been with a DSLR from a self-flown aircraft. The system is clearly better than a stabilized lens alone. Because, time on station is...
I used to own a C90. While I'm sure something could be rigged up, I doubt it would be usable. The f-stop would be very high, and curvature of field might be a problem. If your goal is...
In a garage sale. They're said to be worth $200M.

I've shot with this lens, on 4x10, for approximately 20 years. Ninety-five percent of my shooting is B&W. Only on a few images has the vignetting been noticeable. It can be seen on chromes...
I have the IQSmart 2 and the calibration slide has the scanners serial number on it. However, I do not think that getting a replacement will be a problem. Try Marc Jacques, Kodak inside Sales, at...
Rest assured, another one has not bitten the dust. I shot with Jack on a 10-day Grand Canyon rafting trip back in September 2009. The only camera he brought was his Arca-Swiss, along with many boxes...
Places to shoot and see, besides the Everglades, would be:
Big Cyprus National Preserve;
Cork Screw Swamp Sanctuary;
Clyde Butcher's Gallery on Tamiami Trail (HWY 41); and
if you are into art...
For those of you who think guns should be avoided, or that spray is adequate, check this video out:

There are plenty of other videos...
Beyond 10 feet with a 200 inch projection, one cannot resolve the pixels with the latest digital projectors - hence, no reason to attempt resolving more. I would recommend trying a top end Canon...
I have both the three and five-series CF Gitzos and a Canham 8x10.
If you will be hiking (or traveling), even a little, with the 8x10, than a three-series CF with a RRS BH-55 head will work. The...
I stopped using Kodak's 8x10 films for the original reasons stated - volume (and cost) while traveling. The bottom line is that a 10-sheet box is hardly worth considering. I too am shooting Ilford.

Surefire Saint Minimus or Surefire's U2 Ultra.
I've printed Pt/Pd with digital negatives.
Being able to do all the adjustments in the computer, first, makes all the difference compared to attempts at dodging and burning of a conventional...
From my understanding, there is only a small difference (almost unnoticed) between between a Bayer sensor without an antialiasing filter and that of a monochromatic sensor. Here is a...
I use a Drobo. Why would you care about the specific files on the old drive? Drobo will automatically copy those files to the other drives, including the new larger one you are replacing the old one...
In this thread, you'll find a posting I made back in '07 with an example shot:

I have an Astro-Physics 105 f/6 with 600E mount, and have had an 8x10 camera on it. This was/is not a practical solution. While it might be cool, better results can be had from stitching digital...
Everything is cyclical, including the parasitic infections that plague the species of this planet. The trees and our photo subjects will recover.
That said, the statistics indicate it is our turn....
No updated drivers for the Epson 4000 either.
Anyone using ImagePrint 8, or otherwise, with Snow Leopard?
I've been in the area, but never made it to the Diving Board - still a goal.
Probably the best way to photograph (with LF) from the diving board, is to camp in Little Yosemite Valley and make the...
kirk and Emmanuel, I concur and I do not concur. The "entrance pupil" is the correct term for the point at which a lens' axis must be rotated, or remain stationary, in order to avoid parallax ....
John, if you are not already familiar with Really Right Stuff products, their pano-mount might be the ticket.

Also, this, or a similar product, might...
Imacon (now Hasselblad) used to make the Photo and 343 scanners. You might be able to find a used one and have Hasselblad make you a custom holder. They made me a custom 35mm holder that showed part...
I have shot down in the swamps of Florida, several times. My typical equipment is an 8x10 (B&W) and a DSLR. My 8x10s are scanned on an IQSmart2, as well.
I have found that my results are better...
I use the Pacsafe system:

Then I keep the valuables covered and still have a few odds and ends (cooler, etc.) showing to...
