Croatia (EU) applies 25% VAT to the combined item value + total shipping cost, in addition to Customs dues, which range from 0% to about 14%, depending on goods - photo items (cameras, lenses) have...
While taking a parcel to USA to the post office in Croatia today, I was told that Lufthansa strike earlier this month resulted in a huge backlog with international post (packages?).... Hopefully,...
Find somebody local (preferrably a photographer) and ask for advice :)
If we're talking about Croatia (a rather diverse country, geographically and photographically), there is indeed much to see...
Well, here's an update of sorts: we've finally managed to get a web site up and running. It's still in early stages, but at least provides some information about the photo tours we plan, plus the...
Try shops which service washing machines (or dishwashers) or provide spares - you'll probably find an appropriate replacement heater there...

Steven, looks like we have a prospective customer :)
Kidding aside, there is no such thing as "weather in Croatia" - it would be the same as the "weather in Great Britain" - not the same in...

Scott, thanks for your thoughts - exactly what I needed. I was thinking along the same lines: offer something people can't get at home, and for those coming from across "the pond", include more...
Hmm, not really. After seeing so many breathtaking waterfalls on Plitvice lakes, more waterfalls is just overkill (IMHO). And it's not really that close... Better spend that time on the seaside...
I'm about to start organizing photo tours in Croatia, geared primarily towards landscape/nature photographers, particularly those working with large format. I haven't seen many similar offerings in...
Tim, Ian's article can be found here:

I'll be making a run of several Aero Ektar lens boards for Speed Graphics, similar to JoLo boards, but at a lower price (about 60EUR).
I'm having several made of machined aluminium blocks, anodized,...
All dressed up, and nowhere to go... (no white Christmas this year)
Taken and developed yesterday, Dec. 31, scanned this morning. Nice way to start a new year :)
Caltar W-II 65/8, Horseman...
Same sentiments here. I registered more than a month ago, sent emails and whatnot, but still no word from admin(s) there.
Ahhh, thanks, Dave, just what I hoped to hear!
So, your ground glass springs are still OK, nothing broken? This means I can use the Grafmatics as planned :)
Thanks!
Brad, I'm not sure I understand this properly: by "use Graflok as intended", do you mean take of the ground glass before attaching the Grafmatic using the sliding clips?
If so, that's not very...
I recently got a nice Horseman Woodman here on LFF (thanks, Ed!), and would like to know from other members who used this camera whether it's advisable to use Grafmatics on the camera without taking...
A Speed Graphic is a bit heavier, but, on the other hand, you get the possibility of using "barrel lenses" - i.e. lenses without shutter: old brass lenses, etc. - heck, you could glue a magnifier...
I write for BLUR magazine, a PDF magazine devoted to creative photography. For those who have not seen it, I could also add (perhaps too immodestly) that it's one of the better phhotography magazines...
Mark is too modest to mention it himself, but his "Pixies" series (plus a short interview) appears in the new issue (#28) of BLUR magazine, available here:...
Now, that's a Franken-JOBO if I ever saw one :)
Interesting. Any additional info? :)
I have one for Durst Pavelle 401, if that helps.... can email it, no problems.

Well, I was thinking about something like that myself.
I don't have the money for foreign travels, or large format (or wet plate) workshops. But I do live in a relatively interesting place with...
BTW, I love the job you did with the camera. It looks very nice!
Resourceful - although some will undoubtedly criticise you for destroying a Speed Graphic.
But, as you said, it was "parts camera", so the damage was already done.
But, does it add a lot to the...
My first completely "homemade" camera: it's a pinhole, and you'll probably recognize the origins of the design :)
The brass screws were made by a machinist friend, everything else was done in my...
Hi Steve,
You have to look at the slides so that the edge markings (the yellow "Fuji" text and those numbers on the edge) appear in correct orientation (not inverted - that means you're...
Lachlan, I presumed the original poster would have known that he shot Velvia through a red filter on the lens :)
OTOH, regarding the simple check for inverted (mirrored) image, it's not always...
You have loaded the film backwards into the film holders, and exposed them through the back film layer :(
I've had a case exactly like that with a colleague recently (whose 4x5 slides were exactly...
My thoughts exactly :)
And I just love that smile :)
This is sound advice, given your setup (type of drum and rotary base).
I'm not familiar with 3010 drum and how long it takes to fill it with chemicals, but try the above, and things might improve....
Another vote for the Apple Airport Express (the "extender thingy").
It's not marketed primarily as "range extender", but it does that, too - without any fuss.
I used it for more than a year to...
Awesome!
(Although that's more in the domain of horology than camera-making...)
He has another interesting camera, that's more our "cup of tea":

As you say, Frank, it's not your strongest image (but it's still a LOT better than I could do, though!), but I just wanted to thank you for a thoughtful and exhaustive answer.
Although it wasn't me...
David, I don't know how I missed this one back in 2009 (must have been because of summer vacations) - but your contraption is great!
Looks like something that came from my garage - but my...
The "blanket" is described here: if you take a look at that web page, you will understand what is a "blanket": it's a piece of flexible plastic on which you place the negative(s), and then roll...

On a more serious note, I wonder what would have happened had she been "discovered" 50 years ago? Or even 20 years ago?
For the sake of clarity, the CPP-2 doesn't require any "special" water hook-ups. It works the same as CPA-2.
But, if you work with B&W materials, and want to keep the temperature at 68F, you might...
As Domaz said, the CPP-2 has a cold water inlet & solenoid...
