Paypal is a good service. USPS Money Orders are not what they used to be. There are stories of people having others intercept them, cash them, and the PO policy is that if it was cashed at an...

Gold Rim Dagors look and cost fancy.
Wetplate was used for astronomy for many decades, even after film. But this part of the caption has me scratching my head, what are "modern chemicals?" "This modern version of a wet-plate collodion...

Good to know a Chinese "front" is allowed to operate year after year in America, scamming ebay sellers, and no investigation. These scams...
I found some more photos this weekend, glass slides. Rolling mill, pouring off slag, NY, 1911. These remind me of Jim Galli.

We also camped at the CA beaches a few days. I shot 1 roll of B&W film. The slot canyons looked better on digital, but I like this film one:

We went camping in isolated parts of California this week, right before Thanksgiving. Slot canyon hike was fun.

First, there isn't a "dilution" with hypo, you buy crystals, and make it yourself with water. Second, when you say "do you think would work...?" I don't have to "imagine or guess" what might work,...
The plot thickens. You are using the two part hardening formula? That would be adding an unknown variable. I'd say try some tradition Hypo, Sodium Thiosulfate made from scratch.
Thanks for the link, so 5 plates in 4x5 are $15, which sounds reasonable. It is hard to find good glass, however none of us wetplaters "have been searching for it for years" as the seller states. ...
I don't know how you are stopping the development, but technique helps ensure you don't get "Prussian Blue" on your plates. It's not so much length of time, it's having some agitation or water flow...
Glass is glass. What is it's price? I searched for it on the linked site to no avail.
If you can show some pictures, we can help. Some lens fixtures have a rolled edge, some have a screw in ring, to hold the glass in.
Looks perfect to me too. Several things make wetplate hard, so next time may be worse...or better. UV light levels, and age of collodion both change exposure times. So keep doing what you're...
Yep, just read this, and the first thing I thought looking at your first example was "overexposed". It can show up a weird places looking like brighter areas or swirling flows, simulating other...
I just pinged Quinn to tell the new Admin to get on the ball. I hope you can at least search the copious answers to almost every question on that site. No need to ask them again....read the site.
The silver bath works best at room temperature. There can be numerous and variable faults if it gets too cold, or too hot. It never gets that cold here, but I suppose I'd arrange some insulation on...
Mark, I don't know if I told you, but I went to the estate sale of the UofA president that set up the CCP. I got a Leica camera of his (no doubt recommended by Ansel Adams), and several Adams books,...
True. Until fixing was discovered, many processes had to be observed in dim candle light, or they would get obliterated. I think each discovery begat another problem, until another discovery. Like...
That's why I commented when you wrote "...low traffic at the best of times..." which is untrue. Yes, in the past 3-4 years it died off. But the best of times from 2005-2013 it was extremely active. ...
That's not true Paul, when I started wetplate in about 2006, there were just two online places to learn how. the Civil War Collodion group run by Bob Szabo, and Quinn's collodion dot com. There...
Wow, something sure has changed in the wetplate world, or maybe the forum world in general. I just checked in to the resurrected Collodion.com website. There has not been any post since Sept 22nd,...
The wash time of Hypo isn't long, I'm sure as long as as the Ammonia one. I have a friend who did chemical studies of Hypo, it's all out of the emulsion within about 10 min of soaking.
You can buy sodium thiosulfate economically at any chemical store, and mix it with tap water any time you want Hypo. Why mess with "made for photography" vendor wares and expensive shipping? I...
You can easily find a [ ] at [ ], and cheaply.
Amazing! Now all that information is searchable, and the same questions don't have to be started all over with.

No, it was Quinns, but he's moving on. I captured it because I hated all those years of good wetplate discussions to be lost. But didn't know if I would start a site, make a book out of it, what. ...
You're still wet behind the ears! I was using the internet in college (worked as a technician) in 1990! No browsers, pre Mozilla days, you had to FTP or Ping or go to listserves with arcane...
Hi all,
As I reported here, the best wetplate forum ever, was closed last winter. I had moderated it for years, Quinn was tired of paying for it, and let it close. Many people learned wetplating...
This is one of the most asked questions, on the old Collodion forum. Extremely common problem for beginners, the "prussian blue". That's why I still bemoan the loss of Collodion.com, with it's...
Sounds good, I may try it. I know my main problems with Sandarac: not filtering the dust enough. I use a pour off bottle, but it seems you have to filter it even if it sits in a bottle for 6 months...
Practice makes perfect. Most, but not all, will eventually be making very good plates. Perfection it hard to attain, There are about 37 steps to do that can all mess up a plate. I don't think I...
Do you remember that old Kung Fu TV series? "When you can walk across the rice paper without tearing it, you are ready to go."
Same with wetplate. You shouldn't mess with 8x10s until you can...

For small plates, black or dark purple glass looks great.
I didn't see this the past few days, but to me, if you want a fairly assertive "old" look, you have to use a fairly old or uncorrected type. Your example shots are looking nice, but very sharp and...
