Re: Old scratched lenses, coatings, etc.

Thank you all for the info. I'm definitely going to try using the lens for awhile rather than attempting to remove the scratches.

Re: Old scratched lenses, coatings, etc.

"Cleaned with sandpaper look" would be how I would describe mine. Have you ever had any luck addressing this?

That being said, I may just try it out as is and see what I get as others have...

    Old scratched lenses, coatings, etc.

I have a 203mm Optar f7.5 lens in a Graflex #2 shutter. The shutter was completely inop but I got it working (and had a great time doing it). The lens elements, however, are quite scratched and I...
  4. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Not large format but the process is nearly identical so hope it’s allowed. Shot my first batch of x-ray sheet film through my Graflex Crown Graphic 23. I’ve started contact printing and adding...

Re: Wet Plate for Architectural & Portrait

Hi Tim. I certainly agree. My spouse and I still write each other actual letters on paper. I sent my siblings postcards recently made from prints of my photos. When I travel, I sometimes send...

Re: Wet Plate for Architectural & Portrait

I'm still quite new to wet plate but can relate. I started with 5x7 plates in wet plate and spent quite a lot of effort fitting my garage with enlarging equipment for film only to find I really...
  7. Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

After reasonable success with an old wooden view camera and brass lens, I'd like to try wet plate with my Graflex Crown Graphic 23 with Optar 101mm lens. I have a film pack adapter to modify for...
  8. Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

Thank you for the feedback. It was actually one of Borut's videos that caused me to realize my developing technique may have been causing me issues. I also hear what you're saying about the false...
  9. Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

After extending my exposure, I'm looking like this now (varnish applied). My collodion pouring needs some work. I think I'm on the right track but any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.244676
  10. Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

Thank you for the tips. Yesterday was my first time ever shooting wet plate and I was using a brand new starter kit from UVphotographics (UVP-4 & Iron Potassium Nitrate). Today I adjusted my...

I took my first tintypes today and my images all seem to come out dark (this image has also been varnished). I kept increasing exposure so I don't believe underexposure is the cause but the...
  12. Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

I bought some pre-cut standard 5x7 trophy plates for my Zebra v2 5x7 holder. The fit is so tight that I have to sort of force the plate into the holder and its difficult to get them out. I suspect...

Re: Wet Plate Beginner's Questions Thread

Thanks again Paul for the assurance. The one thing you can count on in Las Vegas is bright sunlight. I hope to use its predictability to mitigate one variable while learning the wet plate process. ...

Re: Wet Plate Beginner's Questions Thread

Hi Paul, thank you for the response. The lens does have an adjustable aperture though it is enroute to me now and I haven't had much time to study it. Based on your response, I take it I am on the...

Re: Wet Plate Beginner's Questions Thread

I am pulling together everything I need to take my first crack at wet plate and have questions about exposure. I will be shooting a Burke and James 5x7 with an unnamed brass lens in the bright Las...
