Very nice! Seems like you've caught the albumen bug too.

Very nice! Seems like you've caught the albumen bug too.
Exceptional!
Thank you!
One of my first albumen prints from a 4x5 collodion negative.

Always a treat to see your work

The white spot on the first image IS in fact where I pressed on the darkslide too much and it touched the plate. Good eye. The second is actually a pool of water that just reflected a ton of UV even...

A couple 8x10s made over the long weekend.
I love it. Well done concept and execution.

Oh and word to the wise, don't mix UVP-X and New Guy collodions together. It worked beautifully for me the first day, but the next time I used it 2 weeks later, every plate fogged and had streaks and...
Bill, this is fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Very interesting, Matt. Now at least it's easily accessible by road. It's funny because Jay Leno drove by in a GT40 as we were shooting and...
I’m guessing so. But I don’t have much experience doing it by inspection. It’s just what I remember reading on the subject. The couple times I’ve done it that way the three minutes did the trick and...
I know it's not considered ideal but I always sensitize by time. 3-5 minutes. I don't have an adequate enough light in either of my darkboxes to check by inspection. To check by inspection, remove...
Farid,
All of those surely put out the right kind of light for wet plate but at significant expense and without knowing how long your exposures will be without testing. Arri is one of the top...
Many thanks!
The first plate was a hot mess. Warm and dry yesterday - 80F with 16% humidity. It sucked the moisture right out of them.

Thanks, Andrew! Bixby is on my bucket list for sure. Couldn’t find an official name for this bridge. It’s local to L.A. Best name I could find for it was Upper Big Tujunga Canyon bridge.

Here are a couple 8x10s from yesterday. I was focusing on this bridge up in the mountains. Made a tintype and a plexiglass negative. The negative was an afterthought since I didn't have any glass,...
Obligatory thank you to you for the help these last 18 months! I finally feel I’ve got the technique down. Now I just need to find my “artistic voice” as it were. Cheers!

How lucky you were the s/he sat still long enough!
Look at that perfect focus. And oh, those freckles! Good work, Joby!
I'll have to give that a try!
Ah yeah. I have been told the same before. There is usually some developer left in the cup after the pour. My buddy says he gets away with 30mL per 8x10 but I've yet to try it. Guess I'll have to....
Thank you!
Thanks! I think right now my chemistry is just dialed in. The collodion pour definitely had some waves in it from a lack of solvents and the breeze also helping to dry it too fast. ...
Shot my first 8x10s outdoors over the weekend. Due to coastal fog there weren't as many vista shots to get as I was hoping for. Found a nice tree and bench nearby but alone it was kind of boring....
Woo, that nice falloff is so nice. Surprisingly sharp in the center!
Here's a shot inspired by David Emitt Adams. Was more of a test to see what's possible. I'm limited by having to shoot upwards...
Thanks a lot to you, Paul!

8x10 clear glass ambrotype varnished and stuck in a cheap IKEA frame. I stapled black velvet from the fabric store to the backing board but I’d like to find some that doesn’t have so much texture.

Couldn't resist shooting this van while up on an overlook yesterday.

Super good!
For what it's worth I use an 8.5 inch Commercial Ektar on 8x10. Even it covers edge to edge, granted, with little or no room for movements. And there is softness and distortion at the corners but...
Incredible
A stunner!

Hoo mama that's a pretty one.
I shot these over the weekend on a camping trip. Complete stroke of luck that the night exposure had the North Star in the frame.

Under the right atmospheric conditions you can get away with exposures this long. My "personal best" was 6 minutes on a cool summer night. After the plate comes out of the silver bath it's saturated...
Very slick!
Good to know. I haven’t had much plate peeling since I started cleaning my glass really well also. For my friend and I we just prefer silane (when we decide to add it) because we’d rather not use...
Thanks, Paul! The weather has been key to my success I think. I feel like we haven't had a day over 75F in about a month! I also think after 10 months at this I'm starting to 'get' it now.
