Excellent points especially about wall mounting the enlarger! Right now all the studs are exposed so this would be a breeze. I am just not sure that I have the proper kit to pull it off. I have a...
Before the pandemic I had a wonderful darkroom in an outdoor shed. It has now been at least 4 years since I have been able to make any work, I have not been particularly inspired until now. I am now...
I have previously built 2 dark room sinks but I have a little more money now and would like my next sink to be more be more permanent. I don't have the budget for a stainless steel 10' sink but it...
I appreciate that advice, however, I am probably much more critical of the way chems are disposed of than any government agency or regulation. Because my family is on a well it is absolutely...
I want to thank all of you for providing excellent personal experiences and ideas for me to use. I feel a lot better about my plans going forward. I do not have access to a hazmat waste site for the...
You sure? I am not sure I would want anyone to breathe in pyrocat fumes but maybe I am wrong.
Hello everyone. I moved to a new state where the weather is much colder than my previous home. I have the opportunity to build a new darkroom here but I have a few challenges and would love to hear...
Update: Part 2
Current working process, for posterity and my own notes.
For tray processing with a slosher 6 sheets at once
2000ml H2O
30ml HC110
70* F
10 minutes (adjusted down from 12...
Any standard GraLab timer works. I have never had any issues with fogging or ruining a piece of film because of the glow in the dark numbers. I have used them directly in front of my initial pre wash...
Update: SUCCESS
I upped my total developer volume to 2000ml using 30ml of HC110. I also brought development time to 12 minutes and the results are unreal night and day difference. Thanks for...
Pyro is my preferred developer I wouldn't switch if I didn't have to for the moment
I was using 22ml HC110 to 1380ml water. Developing 6 sheets at a time. That's 3.6ml per sheet.
I don't like using it but it does serve a purpose for baselines. All of this is anecdotal anyway. In my experience I will be adjusting.
I just ran some tests last night using the massive dev chart as a guideline. At least in my experience I will be needing to adjust my process since the results were less than ideal.
Thanks for the oversight. I think time is the easiest variable to adjust at this point.
Right that's kind of important: HP5+
I just pulled my first test negatives out uaing HC110. Reporting low contrast. The low values are not as dense as I had hoped. I believe they are least 2 stops thinner than with my D76 or Pyro...
For anyone interested:
(4) There should be at least 10 air changes per hour in the room to ensure removal of
chemical fumes from the area. The supply should be located so that it does not “short...
Thanks sorry my math skills are deplorable
Correct. But that's precisely what I am trying to find out - how much ventilation in terms of cfm are ideal for a 250 sq ft room?
This is a really tough question. If I had to be honest with myself and had to pick only 1 camera for the rest of my life I would probably keep my Leica. It produces excellent negatives for reasonable...
Thank you. I dont live near a menards but that looks way easier to install than my first choice.
I will peruse my copies of the negative and see if he mentions ventilations
I believe everything you say but this is largely to put my wife at ease who worries. I've been processing for yeara without bother but as I get older she worries more
Odor doesn't bother me but potential damage to my lubgs does. At this point after how much time I've spent experimenting and getting my d76 and pyro processes down I can't start over adding a new...
I will be repurposing an old shed for temporary procession of sheet film. The entire space is 6'x'6 roughly and the roof peaks at about 7' so total volume is approximately 252 sq feet. I am trying to...
these types of curators. Too bold to stay in their lane but often not talented enough to create their own works. They often cite Andy Warhol as a defense for their practice but conveniently ignore...
I have played with flashbulbs in the past. Here is a silver twinkie I shot using 2 bulbs, I forget their rating but they make a great crackle and put off a lovely smell. Sorry for the low res I don't...
Nothing against her. Nothing against the exhibition - it's rather interesting. My critique is against the current curatorial practices I have seen implemented and see going on here. I'd much rather...
Thank you. I think for starters I am going to try 1:63 but I have also been looking at some HP5 shot at 200 and that may work for the purposes I am requiring right now.
Sorry I've never met a lady named Nigel so yes I assumed it was a man. More importantly I was looking at the pictures and approach to which I responded. I don't care if she's a woman or man makes no...
Thank you! His flashbulbs had to have been massive in some of the more open photographs. It would be nice to have a modern flashgun able to produce the brilliance of a #50! I will try to order that...
Having just finished my master's I ran into a lot of these types of curators. Too bold to stay in their lane but often not talented enough to create their own works. They often cite Andy Warhol as a...
The plates arent particularly beautiful if we are being honest. That, actually bothers me because it seems like this is getting traction only because it was a wet plate and not necessarily a good wet...
There is no right answer I find it funny is all. Even oil paints are hazardous.
I like the environment as much as the next guy but this whole thing seems ironically hilarious. She the spokesperson for environmentalism being photographed in this process which is arguably not...
I am reading and writing about the infamous Weegee. Currently, I am trying to gather as much technical information as possible and although I have found sufficient documentation of his cameras,...
Well I can't really blame you. However, there is a method to my madness. I use an extremely dilute pyro process which provides a noticeably open dynamic range. I have been shooting HP5 and Tri-x at...
You pointed something very simple I overlooked which is why I posted here. Of course - double the time and increase dilution. Thank you. After all I am looking for a very basic base line tonstart...
