Re: Using Photo Paper in an Inkjet?

If you try this you'll need to fix and wash the unexposed paper first to remove all the siver. Also, you may need to use a non-hardening hypo in order to keep the emulsion porous so the dies can...

Re: What's the next 8x10 lens to buy?

I've put a lot of thought into this also. I chose a lens as the central point with a FL of approximately "normal"... a 300mm Fujinon-C. I shoot landscapes so I don't need a huge amoung of extra...

    Re: Lost in translation.

Your problem is you tipped past the "happy balance" point.
  5. Re: New Envelope System for Quickload, ReadyLoad and Polaroid Holders

Ooooh... I would really be interested in a 4x10 system. Of course, a custom holder would be pricey.

    Re: Schneider 8x10 Lenses

Are you sure you want all three of those? I can see getting the 240 and 360 but the 300 seems a bit too close in FL to the other two. Of course, if the deal is good enough you can just resell what...

Re: Chamonix 8x10 or Shen Hao FCL810-A?

The Canham MQC 57 has more than 600mm of bellows draw. I'm thinking of selling mine with all the goodies including both the 5x7 and 4x5 backs, standard and bag bellows, etc. I wouldn't dream of...

Have a few beers and it'll all start to make sense.
  9. Re: Revised article by David Karp: Introduction to Lenses for Large Format Cameras

Two year old thread but yes, well done :-)
  10. Re: Switching Profiles Non-Destructively and RGB to Grey Conversions

Just add a couple of adjustment layers : first layer is original image, second layer is hue/sat with sat all the way down, third layer is curves (or similar). Save as a PSD with the new layers which...

Re: Stiff aperture ring - Any fix?

With the cells removed first determine if there is a mechanical issue... damage or obstruction. Then clean with Ronsenol lighter fluid working open/closed (slowly - don't force them)... this should...
  12. Re: All-Ttime Funniest Comment You've Gotten While Shooting

ME: [setting up an 8x10 monorail]
TOURIST COUPLE: "Excuse me, could you take a 'quick snapshot' of us?"
    ME: "Sure. Where's your camera?"
TOURIST COUPLE: "Isn't that a camera?"
  13. Re: Using enlarging lens to replace macro lens

A reverse adapter was included in the lens kit that came with the MP-4 for odd situations but it's not worth mentioning, IMHO, because I consider it a pain to use. It screws into the back of the...

    Re: Fix or replace?

I agree with Drew. These are indeed fine lenses but, alas, way under appreciated so you can buy another one for a song.

May I suggest you remove the cells (front and rear) and try cleaning the...
  15. Re: Using enlarging lens to replace macro lens

I do tend to generalize too often. There are indeed exceptions to my statement and I should have written, "...no need to reverse-mount them (Tominon copy lenses) vs. using 'most' enlarging lenses.
  16. Re: Using enlarging lens to replace macro lens

The 17's are around but fairly difficult to find. I never had any issues with the shutter... quite good IMHO. The Polaroid Tominons are designed specifically for flat field copy work (or macro)......

    Re: Symmetrical Or Not?

Symmetrical lens design only means the same number of elements in the same number of groups either side of the aperture. Shapes and spacing can be tweaked to better perform particular tasks. A...
