Re: Best tripod head for 4x5 camera?

I would echo the comments on the Manfrotto 410 head. I have it paired with a older Gitzo Studex aluminum tripod and the set up is really stable and very precise. I use it a lot on short trips,...

Re: Lab recommendations for film processing

Or Samy's, which is also processed in Santa Barbara, I think.

    Re: Fujinon C 450/12.5

I agree with Drew in that the auction prices cycle over a period of time. There was a recent period when the 240 A was not to be found, then all at once there are five of them listed at the same...

    Re: Q: Newest/latest Fuji film???

A place here in Southern California called Samy's (www.samys.com). Theses guys are the local equivalent to B&H, although not as wide an inventory. Film prices for 4x5 are about the best I've found....

Re: Longish lens - 4x5 on Chamonix 045n-2

I, too, have found this thread to be very helpful as I was concerned about using the extension and mounting a 450mm on my Chamonix. Now that I understand the camera is still stable, a 450mm may well...
  8. Re: Aussie in/around LA for 5 days mid Aug - location tips much appreciated!

Well, if Yosemite ends up the objective, get there by heading up highway 14 to 395. After passing Red Rock Canyon, the Sierras will be on the left and the White Mountains on the right. At Lone...

Re: Longish lens - 4x5 on Chamonix 045n-2

I use the same lens spacing as you do on my Chamonix, 90mm, 135mm, and 200mm. I recently picked up the Nikkor 300mm but haven't had the chance to use it much just yet. However, it ends up being the...

    Re: Shutter speed testing

I explored this subject a few months back and ran across the same "how to" site (maybe I could have figured it out, maybe not). At the same time, I ran across a guy in Romania that makes shutter...

    Re: Kayak/Canoe recommendations

The nicest inflatable I've seen is by Hobie here on the west coast, but they aren't cheap: http://www.hobiecat.com/mirage/mirage-i12s/.

The foot paddle feature is really great and has been...

    Re: Film Choices for Backpacking

It's clear you all must be younger and stronger as a 60 pound pack is out of the question; however, to say it cannot be done for less is not quite accurate. Excluding food and water, my core...

    Re: Film Choices for Backpacking

The fireworks have now died down here on the west coast and I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Fourth.

A lot of good feedback here. One of the principal questions comes down to...

Re: Compact & fast 4x5" backpack

I just went through the same exploration relating to a backpack choice and looked very closely at all the options mentioned thus far. The one I ended up buying is by a company called F-stop...

    Film Choices for Backpacking

Quickloads have been a great choice for backpackers over the years as they seem to represent the lightest weight alternative when carrying and managing film in the field. However, when Fuji...
