Had the same problem with some of the same papers on my Epson 3800. Under paper configuration, set paten gap to wide, and paper thickness to 5, and use the rear manual feed. Problems disappeared.
I tried Epson Exhibition, Harmon FB, and Ilford Galerie Gold Silk. I like the Ilford because of the slightly creamy base, luster rather than completely glossy finish, and price. I really think...
This site has been one of the most useful, and most civil, photography sites for a very long time. I thank Q-T for getting it started, and keeping it going all these years. The moderators have been...
I've lived in CT for 25 years, and been in the woods more times than my computer can count. Yes, I've had Lyme disease, once. It was cured with the standard 21 day course of antibiotics. Since...
In Big Sur, look for Pfeiffer Beach. Feels remote and is just stunning. Point Lobos, just south of Carmel, was made famous by the Westons (there is a Weston Beach there) and others like Morley...
I have a MacBook Pro, which I found frustrating to calibrate. I think part of the problem is that the brightness drifts so much. I use the MacBook for image editing, but depend on an attached Apple...
If you are looking for nature, our Eastern landscapes are beautiful but quite different from the Sierras. Try Steep Rock Reservation and the Shepaug River...
Hi, Pam, and welcome from down South (Connecticut!). The people who hang around here are among the most knowledgeable and helpful folks to be found anywhere. Many of us (me included) also work in...
Anybody else using this combination? I like the new baryta inkjet papers a lot, and Galerie Gold is my favorite, as it is a little warmer than the others, and also less expensive. But I am having...
this thread has been active long enough that few will probably read a post as far down as this one. But I want to say a few things. I bought my Wisner 4x5 around 10 years ago. When I opened the...
I bought a 5d for just this application in mid 2006. It was destroyed in a fire in December 2006. In January 2007 I bought another one. I am very pleased with it. I shoot all the time at...
Full time photographer who is most fortunate to have a retirement check every month from 35 years in the computer industry. Lots of work for charities for which I don't get, and don't need,...
Lee Filters makes a lens shade that is not a true compendium, but has a sort of bellows that pulls in and out like a compendium. It attaches to a Cokin P filter holder that attaches to the filter...
Reading glasses considerably stronger than you need work well. And they are hands free!
Update....I measured the maximum luminance on the screen of the MacBook and calibrated for that value so I would have something hopefully repeatable. I am closer now to WYSIWYG, so I think matching...
Many thanks to so many thoughtful responders! Let's see...it's the original MacBook Pro, not the ones shipping now with the better screens. Ambient light feature is turned off. I last calibrated...
There might be a better forum for this, but there are more smart people here, so I will give it a try. I have a MacBook Pro whose screen I have calibrated with an eye-one...lots of times! Had an...
They probably aged the Neutol in small oak barrels. Ready to drink now!
This will likely be of interest only to a few of us wackos that print on warmtone paper and can't easily use selenium toner for permanence, and others with their own attachment to Sistan. The stuff...
Until recently, I have never been asked to present proof of liability insurance to do a location shoot. I'm mostly a portrait photographer, but have been doing a personal project where I want to...
I'm just grateful for the hurculean efforts expended by QT and the others who make this wonderful place available to us. It is the very essence of people doing something that is great for everybody...
I have had several weird problems, too. I use only the poly warmtone, and have had a box of cold tone paper in the warmtone box. also paper recently with fogged edges. But I love it, too, and put...
I think the kernel in OS X is from Unix.
This post will probably be boring, because no steam is coming from my ears! At the risk of posting after lots has been said, I'm doing it anyway. First, I think Ansel, Edward Weston, Harry...
I've used it for years, since I use warm toned papers that make selenium toning for archival purposes difficult. The company that bought the Agfa business that includes chemicals is now producing...
I use distilled only for final wash of film, and everything works fine. I would start with that, since the volume of water is low, and mineral spots on your film are VERY hard to remove. Spotting...
I use XTOL 1+1 all the time with 400TX film in 120 size. I use the 5 liter packages and never have any problems. I mix it in a dedicated bucket that's never used for anything else, and store the...
Ektaflo type 2 with Forte polywarmtone and its almost twin, Bergger VCCB. the Ektaflo is liquid concentrate and cheap. Good for cold tone papers, too. Opens up shadows just a little. I was...
I frequently use D76 1+1 with hangers and HP5+. I never have any streaking. I agitate initially for a full minute, but initial immersion is straight in, very quickly. I agitate by bringinging the...
In deciding whether to get the 210 or the 240, you might think about what lens you use most often in 35mm or whatever other format you're now using and think about getting the equivalent. The 210 is...
Thanks, Steve. You're very responsive. Just don't forget about 4x5 Portra 400NC along with the B&W!
Just received my View Camera, and it's great to see the improved editing! If others agree, I'd ask Steve Simmons to consider making the film chart a permanent feature of his website, with the rest...
A small, fuel efficient pickup with a shell over the back gives huge carrying capacity and better gas mileage than most SUVs.
I'm going to be photographing some large stained glass windows, mostly by transmitted light. The church interior will also be lighted at the time, with of course tungsten lighting. I'll be using...
Bruce, I don't know where you are located, but if Connecticut is convenient, you might consider a day one-on-one with Carl Weese. Check out his work at carlweese.com. I spent a full day with Carl,...
I am an experienced traditional darkroom printer in black and white. I'm not perfect but I'm pretty good. Never did color with chemicals. Need to get more than casually OK doing color digitally. ...
I'm sure the input you've received will help with mounting, but you still have to find out how you'll dry/flatten the prints. I squeegee them on a flat surface and dry on screens (plastic, not...
I also recommend HP5+ in Microphen or DDX. If the new 400TX were only available in sheet film, I would use that in XTOL. I've pushed 400TX in XTOL to 800 lots of times in 120, and works fine. I do...
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, according to Dr. Freud. I took a workshop from Jock several years ago, and got to know him a bit. He is a great person and a gentleman. I think his work is...
