I posted this over on APUG and thought it might be useful to some over here as well, so....

After recently acquiring quite a lot of aerial roll film of 9.5", 5", and 70mm widths, I wondered...
Stitching is still insanely cheaper than the backs out there. I am surprised we haven't seen more price movement- must be very limited demand still.
Sorry Ed, I meant to get back to you but haven't gotten the info yet. The perf is unspecified in the technical info and the person I spoke to didn't know, and I didn't have the patience to pursue...
Thanks Jay, I did appreciate your frank input ;)
And, for the record, I am interested in other bulk purchases as well. Not that I am a horder but I do think associated commodity prices are in a...
Jay, if you want Acros then buy Acros. Nobody's stopping you ;)
And... I'm not guessing anything, but thanks for worrying on my behalf. I want the extended sensitivity, and I also like the idea...
haha, no harm done :)
I'm up to 4 rolls already. 14 to go... just think, a nice supply of fresh plus-x.... plus-x..... +sex...
I'd like to coordinate a bulk purchase of plus-x in the form of 70mm x 500 ft rolls. This is aerecon material on an estar base. The minimum order is 18 rolls at $720 each, so obviously I'd like to...
I find that a dslr makes an excellent companion for slide- as a scene meter. Being able to pull up a histogram and check out the colour temp etc. is really vital, and a basic dslr costs less than...
Hi Rodney, welcome.
Happy Valley = State College? I did my doctorate at Penn State.
Oh I just saw the post above and Oregon near your avatar; I guess there is another "Happy Valley" ;) but...
Hi Cliff. I am in Charlottesville. I know a ULFer in Waynesboro and a bunch of LFers in DC and we get together from time to time. If you want to be introduced to the gang, just say the word; Scott...
I like it. As I learned from our exchange, it's clear that what you need is a strong centered image surrounded by negative space.
It's a striking cover.
I imagine that there might occasionally be some very nice misty scenes up toward glacier point in the morning; perhaps a bit cliche but who knows, you might find something special. If I'd managed to...
Well done, I like these shots. I can imagine some interesting street possibilities with this approach.
Why use 4x5 instead of 35mm for this kind of thing? Well, why not use the same gear that...
My strategy would be first to set up conditions for the sharpest possible test negative. Once you have that test negative, then you can start to pin down the source(s) of unsharpness.
Set up a...
Haven't tired dr5 for LVT, though I have sent rolls of scala to them and some other stuff processed for positives too, I think it was hp5+. They do very fine work. At one point I was trying to...
My scanner is kept in a glass-doored cabinet. I clean it with a polonium antistatic brush every now and then. The negs and chromes have to be cleanroom-clean before I take them into that cabinet,...
For long exposures in colour I like fuji 64T. Referring to this site, 64T isn't horrible.
But for b&w acros indeed looks great. It looks so good that I guess you might simply give it a stop...
Alas, one of my favourite shots from a recent trip was taken on 5x7 velvia 100 and unfortunately it is a bit fogged here and there. The detail seems good but I coudln;t print it like this, so my...
Last time I went through, which was a week ago, the dividing line was ISO 400, not 3200. I was asked if I had any film faster than 400. I sent hp5+ through and there was no ill effect.
Anyway...
Brian, as I mentioned, you might be able to locate a replacement front element, it won't cost you anything to write a few emails. The rear element and shutter are tiptop.
As for how it affect...
How much? (ballpark)
Phil, the first time that you try to put two rollfilm backs on there you briefly won't believe that it works.
But then, open one of the rollfilm backs and simply reverse the film holder in it. ...
There are two separate rotations.
I assume that the rotating back accessory you refer to is the two-port object that fits onto the normal rotating back, in place of a 6x9 film back. This round...
I agree that the prices may be somewhat excessive for film and for the limiting IC that you get, but... I would do this with a mind to invest in a digital back at some time in the future. I do...
Whilst touring the latest digital lens lineups I came across three "digital" lenses that all allegedly have 125 or 150mm circles at f/22. These are:
Rodenstock 90mm f/5.6 Digital APO Sironar...
Thanks Jon!
I seek opinions on the Nikkor 480 f/9 barrel lens. I expect it to be quite good but I'd appreciate some insight from anyone who has used it or one of its Nikkor barrel cousins.
The 120 AMED was a lovely self-present, thanks for the tip. I got myself a nikkor 4T closeup lens to go with it.
I wonder if anyone here has fitted a 3x4" sheet film back on a 6x9 cm camera. Obviously the full sheet wouldn't be exposed right to the 4" edge, but one should get at least a good 9x9cm or 3.5x3.5"...
I got a refurbed 4990 directly from epson and it's great! I'm not that thrilled with the 4x5 film holder but I will work on that.
Yep, it's a very common problem when you first start out!
Follow the advice given above ^ and let me also suggest that you sacrifice one sheet of film and do it the first time with lights on. ...
Peter, so far I am indeed controlling it with with exposure and with different filters; I have tried #87 and also a 72. The 87 works fine in medium format with faster glass; this is probably my best...
I use the rollei 400 IR, I like it very much. I used it a fair amount in 120 size and then recently tried 4x5. Here's a pic, taken with a #72 filter metered 6 stops over normal.
...
So what film did you use?
Ooops please ignore the above ^^^, I just found detailed instructions right in front of my nose! - Keith
This looks interesting, could someone please explain how it works or refer me to the appropriate thread? People share prints and keep them, is that the idea? It sounds nice but as a newbie printer...
By the way, you can rate Rollei R3 at 3200 or even a stop higher. I haven't tried at 4x5 size yet, but as I recall, someone here posted some results at 6400 and they were quite good.
B&H has R3 in 4x5" sheet form. Mfr # 4004820; B&H # ROR34510
Keith
Ah, thanks, R3 it is then. Unless someone cares to loan me a 612 back so I can do this on roll film.
