Hi Bob.

Hi Bob.
The lens was mounted by a Linhof trained tech, although I suppose there is always a chance it has worked its way loose over time. All the parts, including the cable release, are genuine...
Last year I replaced the original GG and fresnel of my Tecknika V with the modern versions. The difference in brightness of the GG was dramatic, I think mostly due to the fact the grain was finer....
Hi all.
I was out shooting today with my Technika V and 90mm f8 SA mounted on a genuine Linhof recessed lens board. I noticed that when pressed the quick release mechanism causes the lens to move...
Seems like an electronic / sensor issue. Get it fixed under warranty.
I bought one from Linhof and Studio, UK. Very nice product. I'm pretty sure it's an official product but aren't certain.
Finally! All is good in Technika land! The cause of the problem was a slightly bent GG retainer. The techinician managed to find tune the front standard detents so all is parallel to the film plane...
I think I diagnosed part of the problem. The fresnel is only a small part of the equation in that because it's not perfectly parallel with the GG the image distorts more on one side than the other....
I live in New Zealand and the local Linhof "importers" (I use quotation marks because they haven't sold anything Linhof for quite some time) quoted me almost $800USD to send it to Munich. Knowing...
I have taken a closer look at the fresnel on the camera and it doesn't seem to be sitting flush against the ground glass. The GG is held tightly in place by two brackets and the fresnel is held on...
I'm getting this way myself. I haven't tried using the fresnel with my 90mm lens yet, but with the 150mm the increase in brightness seems small, maybe half a stop at most.
I didn't realize how...
Haha, yeah I know. I always spelt it your way but half the European sites on the net spell it the other way. Anyway, "loupe" it is!
Thanks, Brian. I think on further inspection the problem lies in the fact that my current loupe doesn't allow for focusing past the surface it sits on. It has a diopter adjustment but not a focus as...
Thanks for replying, Bob. I'm feeling rather silly asking about this as it seems such a simple thing!
I'm using two models, but only one in the field. I have tried the exercise you suggested with...
I've been thinking (obsessing?) about this and can't understand how I can focus my lupe beyond the immediate surface it rests on. I can't remember using a lupe that allows for focusing as such, only...
Just tried doing what Bob suggested re. trying to focus on grain with lens off. I can only achieve perfect focus with the lupe reversed. In the normal orientation, I can focus on the fresnel surface...
Bob – I purchased brand new and current Linhof replacement parts so assume they are the modern, more brighter type. Thanks for the tip on finding best lupe settings. I hadn't thought of that way...
I tried to adjust the lupe today but with no affect on clarity. Think I'll wait until my 4x lupe arrives to see if the lesser magnification makes a difference. Could it be that the Horseman's screen...
Ah, I see. That makes sense, thanks. When I look at the Horseman, the fresnel does indeed seem to be inside the camera. I hadn't noticed this before. I think too my current lupe is too strong, 8x,...
Hi all,
This is a stupid question regarding a problem I'm encountering after switching from my Horseman 45FA to Linhof Technika V. The 45FA has a ground glass and fresnel which I believe, but aren't...
Cool, thanks. I didn't know there was a newer clip system to keep it in place. Will check this week.
It's a genuine Linhof fresnel, bought from Linhof & Studio, UK. I had a technician install it at the same time as a new groundglass. It's held in place by two flip up clips.
Bugger...
Anyone experienced the fresnel bowing slightly as I described above?
Out of interest, are there any other simple accessories I don't know about to help with access to the switch when using the recessed board? Seems a pretty massive design oversight.
Thanks, Cor. Good to know I'm not alone here. I've heard the comfort board mentioned but have noted it's high price – more than a lens in some cases!
Hi all,
I finally had my new bellows, ground glass and fresnel screen installed in the Technika V I'm doing up. All looks great and the new accessories are making the world of difference to the...
Interestingly, the Rodenstock lens on ebay I linked to before has dropped in buy now price from $475 to $349. Another lesson has been learnt in the merits of patience...
Thanks all. I might do the test target thing regardless of diffraction testing as I've swapped my ground glass and fresnel and need to test focus accuracy. Good times ahoy...
Thanks Bob,
I'm used to shooting 35mm and MF where f16 usually looks mushy, so wasn't sure how 4x5" would handle f22 given the larger image area plus movements. My Mamiya 7 lenses are particularly...
Honestly, I'd just appreciate a straight answer. I'm well aware of the mundane nature of the question – I make a living out of photography, although LF is purely for pleasure – I've just read several...
So... After that heated debate... Does anyone who has experience using the SA comment on the above? DOF aside, as I mainly shoot focused in the middle distance and am covered either way, is field...
Correct me if I'm wrong, Tim, but isn't what we're seeing in your microscope vs. scan crops more to do with grain aliasing and the limitations of the analogue to digital workflow? I've found that...
I'm late to the party on this thread (by over two years!) and found it while searching for info on diffraction limits of my Schneider SA f8. I haven't had the chance to print or scan any of the...
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks all. I've ended up buying a Nikon-W, including Technika lens board. I paid higher than what may be considered fair but compared to buying locally it's still cheap. So I can't complain, really....
I've been borrowing a modern Topcor 150mm lens from work that was originally purchased packaged with a Horseman 45FA. I've never read anything about the lens, but it seems sharp enough. I bought my...
All good information, thanks. Can anyone recommend another trusted source for used LF lenses that sells via the web? I'm not exactly spoilt for choice here in New Zealand.
Thanks again.
Yeah, I've noticed that. Good point. The ones that sell do seem to go for a lot less, although I notice at KEH the turn around on samples of that value is relatively quick.
This is the auction...
Wow, really? That cheap? Thanks for the heads up. I'm finding it really hard to source a high quality 150mm lens. The big stores, like B&H and KEH seem to charge a premium (which sometimes I'm...
Hi all, just wondering what a fair price for Rodenstock 150mm APO-Sironar-N might be? I've been trawling the net, specifically KEH and the closed auctions on Ebay, and EX+ condition samples seem to...
