Eventually I want to move to J. Lane Dry Plates whenever they resume production . . .ISO-2.
Don't think I will ever be able to coat my own plates though.
Might still be able to (some day)...
Well Ppackard can give "Bulb" and "instant" . . .which may be around 1/30th or so depending on the size of the shutter and how deftly you can manipulate the pneumatic bulb.
What he said. Nice!
Recently, I got a lens mounted on a Betax #4. It works at sll speeds but sticks and needs a solid CLA.
I was shocked to find that there is no one here in the city of Houston that will do this any...
Dan: All good stuff. I respect your view on this. Eye of the beholder and all that . . .

I envy your good fortune. If I do go forward withis idea, I will work with the Ideal outfit to get together the parts needed to make it happen. I may have to wait a while to be able to get...
Thank you Dan:
While that is a workable idea, it just doesn't seem "right" to me. It seems inelegant. . .. which, I know, is the opposite of the pragmatic form-follows-function concept.
So, I was thinking it over some more and this idea came to me:
Get an adapter lens board for the 2D that accepts other lens boards. I am seeing them on e-Bay now. Mount a large Packard shutter to...
Lookinig for ways to work with different antique (brass) and vintage barrel lenses on my Kodak 2D.
I do not want to modify the 2D. I have seen a Folmer & Schwing focal plave shutter in 8x10...
I have one in 8x10 and another in 4x5.
I like them b oth. I cannot think of anything I would change. . . .not even the color. Maybe s lighter weight could be achieved with rip-stop nylon, but...
Then ks for the clear explanations of this project. I had once thought to simply cut off the front of pre-anniversary Speed and graft the shutter portion onto a a wooden piece that would replace...
Nomenclature misunderstandings aside, I am not clear as to what has been done.
Please post a narrative description of this project.
Folks: This discussion has convinced me to have the work done by a competant technician.
Still looking for a local guy.
Does anyone have experience with "Camera Care Center" on Richmond Ave in Houston? I can arrange to get there.
Precision Camera will do the work at an acceptable...
That is an effective strategy for many.
I am trying to not carry anything these days. My 4x5 kit packs into an old LowePro shoulder bag that gets moved around on a set of heavy duty luggage...
Stay out of the slot canyons for a few days!
Thanks, I looked . . .GASP !
When I regained consciousness, I swore I'd never do more than remove a lens cap ever again.
Thank You Everyone.
I'll have it serviced properly when I can.
I have gotten a lens in a Betax #4 shutter. The shutter snaps at all speeds but is slow and sticky. The diaphragm works smoothly but has oil on the blades.
Someone has told me to unscrew the...

A tangent but related thought:
While dead weight IS a major issue, there is another nearly as limiting aspect of shooting in the field. . . .bending over or squatting.
For years I have had...
Good stuff here.

A back-burner project I am organizing i my head:
Want to use an adapter lens board on my Kodak 2D to let me use different antique or vintage barrel Lendes interchangeably. I have that set up...
What about the 1970s to 1980s look of mirror lenses in 35mm film format? All out of focus highlights make a little circle.
Has anyone ever mounted a 4x5 to a large-idsh folded optic telescope? A...
I am facing this issue myself. My 4x kit weighs in at 25 pounds. It centers around a Wista 45DX and an older light duty CF tripod from Velbon. There is a discontinued Magnesium ballhed on top. It...
SAd to hear.

Posted the OP in hopes of finding someone local . . .guess not.

Fine: So is there anyone who does work on leaf shutters anymore?
Just exchanged e-mails with Blue Moon Camera and Machine.
They will not do any work on antique (brass) lenses.
Theyill not do any work on a Turner Reich convertible in a Betax #4 shutter...
redenemy: Richmond it is, right you are!
And yes, they have rearranged everything in the past few years. Looks like the stock is thinner too. No one there was able to recommend a shutter guy. ...
Our son ws in town and we took a ride all the way in to Houston to try out Riley's. We found it after some driving around. Doesn't look like a store front. More of a shred space warehouse thatr...
