Thanks Gem!
Had a slight fall of the 4x5 back on my Ebony 4x5. Does anyone have know a source for the Protective Glass Ebony uses?
Thanks all for the suggestions. Yes I contacted UPS first and they are doing an investigation. Unfortunately it benefits the shipper as they can take there time reporting the claim back to me....
Hoping some of you LF enthusiasts can help me. I recently bought a Schneider 360mm Symmar lens off ebay. The lens came mounted on a Cambo board and with a Ilex shutter. Yes a big old beast but I...
Scanmate is long out of business but the folks at ABC Scan in Denmark still service the units and offer replacement parts and dongles.
You can download the last available versions of the software...
I used CSW for a long time and they were mostly great. They themselves told me some time ago they were not adept at processing 8x10, so I went to Precision. Ran into a few issues along the way with...
Happy to still have a place locally to get 8x10 C-41 done clean and for a good price.

I'm many of you have seen this but nice mention and discussion of film and process.

My favorite was simple Tri X but did notice the Ilford and Efke. Never liked Ilford roll films much but things change ;)
What do you mean by interesting regarding the Efke?
Been away from the forums for a bit and busy photographing. For the past 8 yrs I've been working exclusively in color and have a few ideas recently that I'd like to try out in B+W. Since I've only...
I have a Chamonix 8x10 and will be doing some trips. I'd like to get a case or bag that isn't too big or bulky to fit the camera. I'd prefer not to have a backpack but could possibly do a Pelican...
I've been shooting 8x10 neg here in Chicago and btwn film cost and processing, it's about 13 bucks a sheet to see a processed neg.
If it did, the hand crank is long gone. It's the 81-01 model.
I do have a adapter for the car. Will try that first.
As a gift from a friend I was given a box of old 8x10 809 Color Polaroid. I found a processor and a holder from a friend as well.
Thing is I'd like to use this stuff out in the field and of course...
Greg, Very moving story. Certainly brings to mind many pictures.
And all they say is we only talk f-stops around here ;)
Greg,
Great to hear your experience in MD. The sprawl issue is now a much bigger problem than we ever expected. Local and State govt went for the cash and were happy to sell land for commercial...
This is just a small edit of the project which is ongoing. David, Randall Park is actually still 'open'. The Sears was up and running as was the Burlington Coat Factory and perhaps the movie theater....
Many thanks all!
Gang,
I discovered the LFF forum a few years back and have found it to be a wonderful and generous resource for the photographic community. Reaffirms what I feel the Internet can provide beyond the...
Helpful to hear all your comments. I think it a bit irresponsible on their part to take such care in the camera and then be so careless about a detail like levels. Also have the super viscous issue...
The levels on the Ebony were pretty nice and helpful in most situations. At this point it's habit and I often am in pretty dim light so hard to trust the gridded lines.
Just picked up and been putting some serious time into a new Chamonix 810. Sturdy as hell and a fun camera. I have noticed 2 issues and am wondering if these are common among others.
The bubble...
Just got a Chamonix 810 and it was tons lighter than my Ebony RW810. Great camera. Even makes me a bit worried it's so light.
Yes I wrote Ebony and not so much for those reasons did they decline to sell this part but the fact that in order for the mirror and levels to work correctly the camera needs to be milled out.
I ended up getting an Fuji older W from Mpex. Only used it a few times so far but a fantastic lens! Great coverage for 8x10 and sharp as hell.
Thx. for all your help.
Love the mirrored levels on my Ebony camera. Is there a source to buy these separate?
Or other levels for front standard?
I've been doing a lot of 8x10 stuff at night and in pretty dim conditions.
I need a Fresnel or screen that will give me the brightest viewing I can get.
I know Maxwell screens are nice but pricey....
Anyone have problems with some of the older lenses not being MC when shooting color?
Thanks all, this is very helpful. I generally use Schneider lenses but this provides some good options to the very pricy Super Symmar.
Working with mostly color neg and often at night or indoors as...
Any votes out there for 210mm lenses that have ample coverage for 8x10?
Diane, let us know how it turned out!
I'm out at night for some long exposures and hard to brave the -20 windchill.
How about rain? Decent umbrellas?
Up in Chicagoland and shooting some 8x10 at night for some long cold exposures. The weather rarely agrees in this neck of the woods and wondering if others have suggestions of supplies to ward off...
Can't you pls. post some images of what the camera does? Sounds incredibly interesting.
My Linhof recently did have a CLA from Precision Camera Works here in Chicago. Though not really sure Bob made adjustments to Beattie screen or shims.
I imagine Marflex is much more thorough?
I have it installed as per Beattie's instructions:

David,
Thanks much for the quick response. The GG that came with the camera was simply a clear glass. I used it in front of the fresnel (Clear Glass>Beattie>lens).
The shutter does have a lever...
I have a great older Linhof Technika IV serial #62749. I got it off of Ebay some time ago and have been using it considerably for some time with portraits, interiors etc...
It came with a matching...
Other than tape what could be done about 'pop'? Are some types of film more likely to behave that way? Certain holders? Or simply too long of an exposures with film that large?
