Re: Advice on using a century old lens

Many thanks Ian for the offer to meet up. That would be really helpful. Where are you based at the moment?

I have thought of using ND filters, Mark, and always have a set of Lee filters in my...

Re: Advice on using a century old lens

Many thanks for all the replies which are all helpful. Loved the video link, Mark, although I'm not confident I will develop 'Galli-esque" abilities when it comes to timing exposure.

    I learned...

Advice on using a century old lens

My grandfather , born in 1885, was a keen amateur photographer, and I am thinking for trying a project based around where he grew up and worked. I am therefore planning to have a go at trying an...

Re: Please Recommend a Ball Head for 4x5

I used to use a 3-way head. When I needed to replace it I decided to try a ball head. I bought a BH-55 head, which is a great solid piece of engineering, but it was quite heavy for hiking so I...

    Re: Fuji Acros

    Hi Martin,

I have not had any problem importing film to the UK from B&H or from Badger Graphic and would have no concerns about importing it.

Re: Have a feeling I messed up this shot

If you know you have underexposed by 1/2 stop, why don't you just push-process 1/3-1/2 stop? I've done this on more than one occasion if I realise I have made a mistake with the exposure, and they...

Re: Who does large format processing in Italy?

We lived in Tuscany for a year and I made enquiries about a lab with no success. So I bought a Jobo and did my own E6 processing without too much difficulty. I will be making at least four visits...

    Re: Jim @ MidWest Photo...

Jim has provided me with all sorts of equipment and he has always been extremely helpful, with good prices and totally honest. I thoroughly recommend him. I just wish he was located in the UK!

    Re: Bracketing...

I have never bracketed. I mainly use transparency film, and when I started, I took two shots at the same exposure and adjusted the development on the B sheet if necessary. Increasingly I take one...

    Re: best lightweight head

I use an Acratech GV2 head with my 2kg Ebony. It is very light, and looks very small, but it does the job well for me. No problems. Acratech also provide a free repair service should anything need...

    Re: Focusing

I find a 4X loupe easier for focussing on the GG than a 6X or 7X loupe, but this may just be a personal perference. You might find it helpful to try different loupes.

Re: Is expired film stored in freezer still good?

I have used a lot of outdated transparency film without any problems to date. I usually check a couple of sheets before committing to a big trip. I don't have any experience with outdated B&W film...

    Re: Back Pack Holdall

I don't think there is an easy option and you have to work out what will be best for you. The Lowepro pro trekker backpacks are comfortable, if a little heavy, but have no space for lunch,...

Re: 'Wista' copal shutter for fujinon lens

Many thanks again to everyone. I didn't realise that this shutter was not designed to view at the actual taking aperture without setting the shutter to B and using a locking cable release. After...

Re: 'Wista' copal shutter for fujinon lens

Many thanks to all of you. I think I do have a problem with this shutter. When I move the aperture ring with the shutter open, nothing happens, so the experiment you suggest, Dan, doesn't work. It...

Re: 'Wista' copal shutter for fujinon lens

My problem is that the diaphragm is not closing at all when I move the aperture scale unless the shutter is closed. It stays wide open. I can see the shutter opening when I press the...

Re: 'Wista' copal shutter for fujinon lens

Thanks Bob. I can see the two cable release sockets. The one socket successfully fires the shutter, but the other one seems to have no effect on stopping the lens down. Is there a technique to...

'Wista' copal shutter for fujinon lens

Can anyone please shed any light on what a 'Wista' copal 0 shutter is, and whether Fujinon lenses were ever mounted in a 'Wista' shutter? I have just bought a Fujinon 125mm lens from a forum member...
