Ah that makes total sense now. Thanks!
I've been trying out a Gitzo 1371 head recently. For some reason it has a second locking knob for the forward/backward tilt. I've circled them here in the photo, one is also a handle but both are...
I wasn't making any comment on the size of the fan required, I was just giving the OP another data point for recommended air changes per hour.
I was reading Tim Rudman's toning book last night and he also recommends a minimum of 10 ACH.
Kodak's SB-8 formula for citric acid stop bath is 15g/L. I keep a scoop in my big tub of citric acid powder that gives me approximately that much and just mix one-shot as needed. Throw a scoop in and...
I have a similar ventilation setup and I used an inline duct fan similar to that one. I have a hard time believing that one of those would do 240 CFM. Mine was a 5-inch model and it did about 50 CFM....
This is fantastic! One of the best threads I've seen on here. Really, really great work and thank you for sharing it with us. I love having the BTS mixed in as well.
I use hot glue and tape to do this and it works great. Also easily removed in the future.
For something more permanent I would use JB Weld.
I use The Lab Vancouver. They have done a good job with my E-6 and C-41 roll film although I've never used them for anything large format. Their website says they do 8x10.
I struggle with this as well. Everything currently on my website is film scans/digitally edited that are 3+ years old. My newer work which is all prints I can't seem to get them reproduced for online...
Wow! That's quite a find and a I bet its a great story Randy.
Duplicate post, sorry
I bought an inexpensive grow light unit on eBay and replaced the bulbs with some from an aquarium supply store. (I use actinic bulbs but you can also use UVB). Inexpensive and no electrical work...
I've had a Paypal account for 15 years and never had a single issue over hundreds if not thousands of transactions. It's massively useful for both buying and selling and in my case I also use them...
I did a project with this paper where I was toning with strong selenium (1:3) to completion. You get a very obvious split toning effect, IIRC it was around 3-4 minutes. I found that with the...
I have been shooting Type 55 at 50 ISO. The positive prints are so gorgeous that I can't bring myself to overexpose them so instead I deal with printing from a thinner negative.
I make my counter tops out of melamine. My local building store only carries white, so that's what I use. Although my enlarger has masking blades so I don't need to worry about light spill beyond the...
Look into Japanese stab binding. Works really well to bind single prints.
I bought 30 lbs. on eBay for $70 USD including shipping. Spent another $5 at crappy tire for a big plastic bucket to hold it all.
The problem I had with used sound-based shutter testing apps was you need to figure out where to put the points on the sound wave. It wasn't obvious all of the time I was never sure how accurate it...
I have been using an app called Helmut on Android which is decent, it captures straight from the camera.
There is a new app coming out called Filmlab that promises to be very good. I backed it on...
My experience with toning lith prints made on recent batches of Foma 131/132/532:
selenium goes from purple-brown --> brown --> reddish brown
any toning tends to remove highlight detail,...
Hi Randy,
Hope that your recovery continues to go well!
Depending on how your vision turns out would one of these grain focusers work? It projects a larger image that can be viewed from...
That has not been my experience at all. Some of my best prints have been made with C-41 negatives onto ordinary multigrade B&W paper. It is generally a straightforward process and my exposure times...
Darn I dont know how I missed this. Please add me to the wait list, I can jump in on short notice if needed to meet the deadline.
Click on the original link you can read the claimed advantages over a regular kitchen appliance.
Check out Tim Layton's YouTube channel, many of his recent videos are exactly this type of print.
I've been split toning in the opposite order from Bob. I do selenium first then sepia. Mostly because I am going straight from the fixer to the selenium toner after just a quick, vigorous rinse. I...
I would be interested. Really depends on the quality of scans more than the price tbh. No point in sending film away for scanning if I'm not getting the best possible results.
I believe that ABC...
Hi Ray,
Checked out your website, you have some incredible work! I'll be at the Red Light show as well, look forward to seeing your prints in person.

Hello from the Yukon!

I am surprised this camera flew under the radar here and on Photrio but regardless the KS funding was successful.
IMHO some really innovative ideas like using laser cut...

I'm actually in a similar situation with not having a large enough easel. I'm using mat board to hold the paper down with magnets but getting some...
There are dedicated weights made for this purpose, eg. https://www.usi-laminate.com/store/wpbec_viewItem.asp?idProduct=913
I'm pretty sure you could make something similar for less money. The...

Welcome! I'm on the other side of the border in Yukon.
Here is how Bradford Washburn managed to do it with an 8x10 camera: https://goo.gl/images/N1whhB
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this Randy!
I shot a box of Type 51 from the 1980s a couple of years ago. Some of the pods were dried out but those that weren't gave decent results. If your pods are still viable I'd reckon it's quite good....
