Got my P3 and assorted stuff today. Custom charges were about 8% to get it into Japan - so in the realm of sales tax really. Very happy with this transaction.

Couldn't pass this up. I love my P2 - even use it for my primary backpack when not out shooting.
This is a great product!
I bought a P2 from you to be shipped to me in Japan. I do not recall paying any duties, and consumption tax of 5% (raising to 8%) next year did not apply to international purchases. I only paid the...
In addition to the brass thumb plates, the DX has three black horizontal plates under the ground glass. The DX II has only two, since it does not have back shift only swing. I had a Zone VI branded...
Looks like he just ate a s'more
I love my Photobackpacker for my Chmonix 4x5. I also use it for weekend camping. The front opening is something I've been looking for, and this one is really nice. It is very roomy and the detachable...
This is a Wista DX II. There are two similar models, the DX and the DX II. The difference is that the DX II does not have rear shift and the DX does. The DX II is supposed to be more stable due to...
Like Mr. Coda, when I was 12 my buddy and I were just finishing our paper routes and saw a guy drive up in his porche (fresh from having his stash discovered by his wife/gf we think) to a dumpster in...
As the seller of the above camera, I was very interested to read all the comments. The camera served me well, but sat around after I lucked into a Chamonix. It was a difficult to decide which one to...
Don't rule out a Chamonix N-1. You may have more luck finding one used for around (or maybe under) $700. I have one and really like it, though I've never been able to compare it to the N-2. They...
Looks like a Nagaoka, but it could be an Ikeda - They look very similar and have similar hardware. I believe both companies' factories were in the same neighborhood near Ueno in Tokyo. Nagaoka was...
You can specify Horiuchi color if you drop your film off at BIC camera. They are usually a few days quicker than Fuji (the BIC default) Not sure if they can meet your time frame though.
I found myself on the edge of Yamanakako looking at Mt. Fuji at 5:00 AM the other morning. That doesn't happen often.

I've been away from Seattle for 25 years, but the first thought that came to me is Gasworks park on Lake Union. Forts built during the Spanish American war would be Fort Casey on Whidbey Island which...
Though I agree, I find it ironic that GPS recommends not using a GPS.
My local (Tokyo) camera store has a box of loose screws that they sell for 50 yen. Probably this particular store is not realistic for you, but it's an idea that makes sense for any used precision...
WD-40 works well. I've used it on metal and Fabric with good results. It did not affect the wood finish it touched.
If you've already have a palm, great. If you don't 7.99 is cheaper than buying a palm. I think they raised the price a little since I bought.
Anyway, I'd probably pay about the same or more for...

is a very useful daylight tank app.
Read Steve Simmons' "Using the View Camera" pages 98 and 99. He describes exactly how he did a cathedral shot which involved multiple exposure and light painting.
Hey, I grew up in Des Moines looking out at Vashon Island. Well OK it was actually Maury Island, but we often went to the Vashon Island light house for picnics, and I did earn summer money picking...
Not law enforcement, but almost - My 5 year old nephew thought my spotmeter V was a pretty cool weapon-like thing, so I showed him how to use it. He went around the house "shooting" everyone. "Mom,...
Epson 4870 also works for 4x5.

Here's one of my first shots. I drove up in the mountains of Yamanashi prefecture in Japan to get this picture of Mt. Fuji. There was...
Always check KEH, Adorama and B&H's used equipment web sites before bidding on anything on e-bay. Most of the time I find the same or better pricing on those sites than what the ebay bidding ends up...
Thanks, the sheets were fujii quickloads and I sent them out for developing at different times. I've sent other film shot with another camera out to the same developer and not had the issue. I'm...
Hi,
I'm having an issue with a light leak when I shoot my Nagaoka 4x5. Here are two examples:

Though not QL, I'm buying Acros in Tokyo for 2,780 yen for a box of 20 (Bic camera web site http://www.biccamera.com/bicbic/jsp/w/catalog/detail.jsp?JAN_CODE=4902520217257)
Bic also still shows...
"Hello From Cleveland" That's almost a Spinal Tap Quote! Love it!
Well, I ended up buying a Nagaoka 4X5 with a Fujinon 135mm lens and a Fuji Quickload from a very generous fellow Japan resident. I basically have my starting kit and now just need to get shooting.
Hi, I've been progressing steadily from digital to film. I started with a D50 after many years without film or digital. I then inherited my grandmother's Rolleiflex 2.8c (purchased new Germany in...
I have to thank all of you for this thread. It reminded me to do my due dilligence before bidding - I know I need to do that, but this just re-enforces it.
I wanted to get a Pentax digital...
