Or any other scanner much better suitable for my needs? I have some huge collections of large-size print photos from schools need to be archived. My current slides/negatives had all been archived by...
I have no need for film scanning, only some print paper. Can you wet mount print paper as well?!
I have zero needs for scanning film(have a drum scanner myself) and only would like to have a scanner for print works, art works, and wonder if it still makes sense to purchase the V800 or a V600...
I am curious how can you tell the drum speed is off and the PMT is bad?
forgot to insert the original picture, here we go:

The roller that I had is too soft to remove some air bubbles and it's always a pain to remove them all....
on the other hand, mounting station has great rubber roller, great clamping power, most...
The purpose is to demonstrate scanners, not a discussion of films. The best way to test a scanner is by using 135 format with superb lens as most LF film has much much lower PPI which even a $50...

I did a comparison test a few month ago.
This particular film is captured with EOS 3 body + 24mm 1.4L lens, this picture is captured on manfrotto tripod (very steady). Film used is 135 Provia...
The "looking" difference is merely the diffraction limit of most flatbed scanners, that's why you should keep scanning lower than 3500dpi on v700 since over that limit, the lens begin to flare abit...
the premise is that you MUST get doug's wet mounting kit for v700, as these flatbed scanner has absolutely NO focusing ability what not. Without wet mounting kit &Vuescan, v700 simply sucks.
...
I have owned both, and currently still owning a v700 and another Howtek D4000 drum scanner.
For 4x5, the resolution is more than enough over v700, and with doug's wet mounting kit, the result is...
The D4000 light seems to be a little bit off the axis (through the focus view) and I would like to perform a simple alignment. However the manual states that you need a special alignment tool (a lens...
Are you sure that Silverfast AI has access to the analogy log amp?! According to Aztek, their software is the only one that is able to control the log amp gains and stuff. Aztek people somehow...
after a bit research, the thing seems to be more complicated than I presumed.
The Howtek D4000 actually has a log Amp that applying gamma curve analogously before any A/D conversion takes place.

Apart from applying anti-newton spray, which destroyed one of my picture (sprayed too much), does anybody experimented a dry-mount approach?
I would think about putting the emulsion side towards...
Thanks!
One more question regarding this method... What color space is this *RAW* thing? and how am I gonna convert it into some Adobe or prophoto RGB space in photoshop without color...
Silverfast Ai demo for Howtek, am I supposed to choose HDR and turn off EVERYTHING else?
Update:
What I said wasn't completely right as today I discovered that 3M blue tape indeed does dissolved under Kami fluid somewhat, contrary to most wet mounting people claim (including...
thanks for your adive.
For the tape, I still prefer the 3M blue scotch tape over anything else. I just tried a small roll of tesa tape yesterday and it sucked. The tesa tape had tons of residues...
Thanks for your insight.
The KAMI mounting fluid seems leaving somewhat residue after drying up, hmm... not sure whether it's my cheap blue tape that's been dissolved.
I just tried scanning...
1 more question:
How safe are those 3M Scotch® Safe-Release™ BLUE Masking Tape on drums? the Aztek tape is a bit too expensive for the kind of myself.
One more thing, how do you clean the INSIDE of the drum? there's quite a lot dirt there and I haven't thought about a solution for such cleaning, water might leave marks on the inside and not sure...
I bought it as it turns out to be just belt problem. The drums seem to be fine, well, probably I didn't describe them correctly, the drums is simply dirty with spider nests.
totally 4 drums with...
have to disagree with you over this.
I had captured a good contrast scene with Canon 24mm 1.4L lens with EOS 3 body, mirror locked, tripod mounted, Provia 100F and did a 4000dpi scan over my...
Ok, I found a seller who sells a used Aztek d4000, but when I got their the machine threw an error code F702, which he claimed to be the bad belt... He contacted me 1 week later and claimed that he...
Apart from Aztek, where else is a reliable place to buy a used drum scanner?
As the price of Nikon 9000 ed hiking to over $4000+ for used, it wouldn't be financially justifiable and one can probably get a used AzTek 4500 drum scanner for cheaper price.
The question is...
