Thanks guys for the information on this lens.
I just purchased a 135mm Sinaron SE also marked MC. The serial number is 110998xx which I believe dates it's manufacture as 1991-3. There is no red color ring or otherwise around the front lens. My...
Can someone exactly measure the dimensions of the 4x5 opening. To do this may require taking the back off and measuring from the inside of the camera instead of removing the GG. I want to know the...
Today I set up the camera with a 210, focused at infinity on a distant object and carefully switched out the regular GG and put in the bosscreen. The result---as suspected, there is a focus shift...
I have a question about the use of a Bosscreen made for a Linhof with a RH Philips 4x5.
When I install the screen the inner glass (closer to lens) sits up on the frame in the 5 inch dimension of the...
I'm assuming you're planning to use the Beattie Screen with the fresnel in place. Because of the AS configuration I think you cannot remove the fresnel without disturbing the focus on film.
Both TMX and Tri-x films are silver based emulsions. The difference comes in with the shape of the density versus exposure curve. That is, they have inherently different tonal qualities .

Ellis, I wonder how difficult the Arca Swiss Bino is to remove for focus?? Is it something one could pop off and on repeatedly? Can the whole 4x5 frame be seen at once?? And does it weigh much?
...
There is of course the Calumet ground glass protector. It is a simple piece of plastic that slips under and over the GG protecting it from both sides.
Try calling Photos, Inc. in Minneapolis at 612 371 0140. I saw a yellow card of them with 6 shrinkwrapped clips for about $2-4 some weeks ago. Photos. Inc is a pro lab and these clips were near...
Not to muddy the waters but have you considered a camera from RH Phillips?? I have his 4x5 which weighs in around 4 lbs and IMHO is quite stable. There are now several versions, one with a hybrid...
Wow--asking a group of LF photgraphers about light meters certainly gets a response. The consistent response about Seconic meters underexposing though is helpful. Thanks to all--
I rented a Seconic 508 to check against my Minoltal IVF lightmeter this weekend and was surprised by the results. I knew there would be some differences between them but what I found was the that...
Yes, I stand corrected, there is back swing although I find it really funky to use. All in all it is a remarkable camera.
I have one of the first 4x5 Dick Phillips made-- which I think was 2-3 years or more ago. He happened to be in town and so I looked at a prototype and on that basis, purchased the camera. Really...
Thanks for all the input which I have forwarded to the Discovery user. Arca-Swiss suggested tightening down the front standard extra tightly for 24 hrs. as a means to loosen it up.
David
At my urging, one of my students purchased an Arca Swiss Discovery camera (I own a classic F and love it). She found that the camera's front standard does not have geared focus and is quite stiff...
One last item to consider-- The standard classic f -line Arca comes with 38mm bellows which could be a problem for longer lens use-- though a longer bellows is available. And now with micrometer...
My college purchased a polaroid 4x5 scanner which we than returned when we discovered that the film holder cropped a full 3/8 inch off the 5 inch length of the film. Didn't matter how highly ...
thanks to all for the responses to film differences between 160nc and nps.
Wow! that is precision measuring. Thanks. The Wista boards worked perfectly well on my technika but I guess I'll have to firm them up with the Arca Swiss-Tech board adaptor.
Ellis-- Thanks for the tip. I'm just a bit surprized that none of my tech boards are completely snug. Strange. But a small piece of tape should do it. David
Well I've just gotten a new classic Arca Swiss with a technika-AS lens board adaptor so I don't have to use the big AS boards. But I see that there is some play in the way my technika copy boards...
Kerry-- One last comment--With such a lightview camera that you have, you might try the lightweight 1228 Gitzo tripod and my favorite Gitzo head which is the 1270M-- a low profile 3 way head. If...
I'd also suggest looking at the three very light weight cameras (4x5) that are produced by RH Phillips. I believe the standard model is at 4 pounds and it'sstable.
I've been using 160nc in 4x5, rated at 100-125 ( I still find it is thin at 160 despite Kodak's opinion) and like it fine.
But since Fuji has introduced quickloads in NPS I would like to start...
I have enclosed my drying screen rack and placed a humidifier in the enclosure. This slows down the rapid drying that is part of the curling problem.
Hello Glenn-- Yes I'm really all set to buy a classic 4x5 F now. Geared orbix is due to ship in two-three weeks so I'm waiting to hear on that-- as I shoot mostly in a studio---- The geared version...
That price is very very low for the Linhof TK w/ lens. The lens alone is worth $250 and the camera was was $3000 new. Now there is a new TK model 45s. Check that there are no hairline cracks in...
If you mean reproductions-- there is a new book by Peter Galassi that has just been published by Museum of Modern Art (NYC) in conjuction with the Gursky exhibit.
So I wonder what the rearranged camera gives one in terms of bellows length? Maybe 5 cm max additional?? I'm left handed too! All of this is helpful in trying to decide between a compact 4x5 f-...
Although I know that the collapsing rail on the 4x5 FC Arca Swiss is listed at 30 cm. I 'd like to know what is the maximum distance between standards. If I can interepret the pictures I've seen...
Larry-- I know this is a speculative question-- but did Arca Swiss say anything about the relative cost of the geared ORBIX vs. manual?? David
I thought I'd try another posting of this. Does anyone have experience with the new orbix mechanism for Arca Swiss cameras that permts near optical axis front tilting and makes the camera triaxial...
I have heard some good things about getting a Arca Swiss F-line camera with orbix outfitted. Does anyone have experience with this feature. Does it really help? And does it add any appreciable ...
Thanks for your comments. I decided not to bid on the horseman on ebay, bite the bullet and buy my last view camera, an Arca Swiss.
I have been borrowing a Horseman 450 whose salient features of geared shift and rise/fall along with rack and pinion tripod block are very nice. Plus I'm accustomed to its axial tilts. But it is ...
What are the essential differences between the Horseman 450 and the Horseman LE model. I believe that the 450 is a pound lighter and comes witha fresnel but that is all I know; the pictures look...
You might try calling Ken Hanson, a photo equipment dealer in NYC ( 212 317 0923). I am told they stopped carrying the new Karden- M because they found it far inferior to other Linhofs. It is a...
