Bob, I don't see how this could be the case. The rim of my lens has an internal lip that's 64mm in diameter and 4mm deep-- which just accepts the disk in a press-fit. There's not room for anything...
I need a 4X ND filter for my 250mm Imagon. The filter must have a smooth outside diameter of 67mm to push-fit into the Imagon's lens shade. Any suggestions?

Note that the new Cooke lens is a design copy of the Pinkham-Smith, which was the favorite lens of Stieglitz, White et al. As I remember, Stieglitz had an early monopoly on the Smith lens, handing...
The problem with 360 or 340-degree shots is that they have no relationship to human vision. Those "panoramas", IMHO, may hold some brief interest for some folks, but I see them as a useless ...
Remember that some of these comercial photo shoots have budgets deep into six digits. A top commercial pro -- product, food or fashion-- has a very large budget to work with and has many high-end...
I wish mine had zero detents.
I'm leaving soon for a trip to Asia w/4x5. I've been hearing that sheet film is much more susceptible to carry-on X-ray fogging then roll film. I hear that Foto Care in NYC is selling lead foil to...
I'm wondering if Kodak single sheet T-max readyloads are also available in Paris.
There's a similar rephotographic project in France that sends students to seek the exact location of Atget's tripod legs and make a new picture of the scene. I believe there's a website.
My understanding is that Hassie sold very few ArcBodies. The FlexBody is much more useful, and as it uses Hasselblad lenses, actually integrates with the camera system.
I have a friend who loves his GX680, although he uses it exclusively in his studio for table-top and product photography. That's the place where this camera shines. You didn't say how you plan to...
And who was the maker of this lens?
And where exactly should these holes be drilled?
I have not seen this done but I understand it's possible: Get a large sheet of plexi, somewhat larger than the 40" width and longer than the print you wish to make. Lean it against the darkroom...
I'm trying to decide on a field tripod for 8x10 and can't make up my mind. I've decided on the Gitzo 1570M head but can't choose between the wooden Ries J 100-2 , the Gitzo CF 1548, or the aluminium...
This is off the subject, but I recently read that Evans was a devoted user of Zeiss Protars. He had six for 8x10, with the 19" his favorite. He also used six with his 4x5, ranging from 4 1/2" to...
Unlike traditional photography, the digital industry runs on built-in obsolesence. New chips, new software, new editions of old software, new and ever smaller computer designs, etc. Digital is a...
I suggest we all bone up on alternative process photography. Do-it- yourself is the future for traditional photography. There's even a newsleter on this theme, "The World Journal of Post-Factory ...
I believe that so-called "cleaning marks" occur most frequently on older lenses that used soft coatings. The Kodak Ektars are a case in point.
Photography can drive you crazy. My advice? Take a vacation from the 8x10, buy a $20 Holga, and only shoot with that for a week or two, at least a few shots every day. Be sure to tape up the Holga....
Can someone tell me the image circle of the 135mm F6.5 Dallmeyer Wide Angle Anas tigmat?
While we're on this subject, I'm trying to find the company that makes those beautiful ultra violet light boxes and drying racks etc. I've found their web site once but can't seem to find it again....
I suggest a Mamiya 7II w/carbon fiber tripod.
In my limited experience I've found the Ebony wide angle screen to be brighter than most, which makes for easy use of the slower Nikon .

I think Alec has the right idea. But how do you go about finding where the "witness marks" should be? I'd like to do this on my Deardorff.
I have an old portrait lens that I want to use. It came with a set of torn paper disks with verious size holes, apparently to be used as f-stops as there is no iris. The front of the lens unscrews to...
No more Polytoner? I can't believe it! By testing at various dilutions and times you can arrive at a wide range of beautiful colors, making Polytoner one of the most versitlile toning agents. And...
I believe that's why John Sexton says to use T-Max RS developer.
I've been seeing several Nicola Perscheid lenses trading on e-bay for rather hig h prices, yet I can find no references to them. Someone told me they are soft fo cus portrait lenses. Who made them? ...
Mine works just fine. A friend's also works fine. If there is a problem, however, I imagine that it would be easy to fix with some matt black paint and/or fine sand paper.
er...make that, e.htm, not e.htmb. sorry
John, I found my 250mm Imagon on e-bay. You can also try Lens & Repro in New York. For a picture of a 200mm Imagon fitted to a focusing bellows on a Hasselblad, see...
Jeepers, Wayne, take it easy. Bob's point was that the soft effect will differ between the two lenses on a 4x5 format. Among other things, the ratio of the center to the edge of the image circle...
Yikes, Aaron, you're kinda hard on yourself, don't you think? Couldn't you chose an easier target to measure yourself by, like Ansel, for instance? Atget may very well be the greatest photographer ...
I have a classic lens in a #4 compound shutter. Is there any way to use it on a camera with a small (Wista) lens board?
Kerry, I'm also heavy into weight loss. At the moment the sore spot is my tripod head. I'm using a Giotto MH-1000, which seems to be overkill and overweight on my carbon fiber tripod. What do you ...
Anyone know the size of the lens hood for the Kodak Optar 190mm? What size filte rs does it take? Is there a Kodak soft-focus gizmo that will fit? Thanks. Arthur
