Don,
If that were 1966 and just west of Cleveland, TN, that could be me on that table.
RC Variable contrast can be fine. But if using VC, you need to set up a way to use filters, or you are stuck with grade 2.5. Tim Layton has a free article about this on his blog in a post from 2020....
Thanks Bernice. I liked this the first time that I saw it and still do. I also learned alot from Tim's technical videos. Very good stuff.
This is an example of something that I think works, from Mat Marrash. It has information, good cinematography, good story. I learned from it.

I understand that. But photo content can include talking about the photo and the process. I've been using the concept of camera movements and zooms on stills since 1980. I agree that it works and can...
I think he makes alot of assumptions. One being that the ultimate end goal of all photography is the web or a digital print. Neither is my goal. It reminds me of the youtube channels where they spend...
I don't think anyone has said don't try to get the photo. But several people have warned not to argue if asked to leave by police. Get the name, call the department, file or do not file a complaint,...
While I have had more conversations over the years with Michael than with Paula. I always found talking with her and listening to her illuminating. My approach to photography changed (for the better...
The fact that Photography is not a crime does not directly protect you from threats by law enforcement up to and including the threat of arrest and use of force. I know this because I have faced it...
When Radio Shack was around, I built a couple of sound card shutter testers. The were within 1/3 stop of my repair guys unit. The smartphone and iPad results were dismal when I tried them a couple of...
I have always been impressed by the Manzanar work of both Adams and Lange. There is so much to unpack in those photos.
The most difficult part of many things is starting. I assume that you have ordered the Norma, get a lens, a cable release, some holders, a tripod and some film and START. You can carry your gear in...
I'm still using the 7w incandescent red bulbs. Though my body is between the bulb and the film, I'm also fighting light leaks in my community darkroom. So, I generally use the SP10 covered for the...
I guess that you will never learn Meyerowitz's contemporaneous thoughts from 1981. No skin off my nose. Perhaps the entire concept of criticism is lost upon you. But critique and criticism aren't...
That 1981 video discusses, in part, Meyerowitz's switch from 35mm to LF and his reasons for it. If you watch both it and the Aperture video in Hugo's message you have the opportunity to see his...
One addition that will turn off some people. While there is value to the videos of beginners. It seems to me that many of the Youtube photo channels are more youtube than photo. Clearly there are...

There's a line from the song "Against the night" by Jason Webley,
"This light won't die, between the shadows of the leaves it dances, as the wind blows by."
Light is the thing the draws many...
I like the SP-810, though I have only used it with 8x10 at this point. I have been happy with my B's 4x5, once I mastered the loading. Previously I was very happy with the Modified Dip and Dunk...
It seems to me that E100, produces better greens in the grass than Provia as well. I always liked Velvia for Summer outdoor use.
Fuji UM-MA film appears to be sensitive at 630nm. See post #5580 on this thread for a chart. I think that you want something between 580-610nm or so. I don't know the wavelength of my delta-jr 7w...
I use a 7w red incandescent darkroom bulb at around 6 feet from the sink. Yes, it takes some time to get used to it. Can you put your led system on a dimmer? Do you know what light wavelengths it...
I thought that this was going to be a conversation concerning cleaning film holders, camera interiors, and limiting the dust in the darkroom on drying negatives. Ah well.
My high end scanning...
I wont speak on the 120 film, but I would definitely shoot the 4x5. Last summer I found a box of Forte 200 that had expired in 2006. It had additional B+F but it was printable and the negatives...
What about using a tripod and copying horizontally rather than vertically. Obviously it depends on what you are copying but it works.
I received my copy yesterday, and gave it a first reading last night. I very much enjoy the stories and the printing quality of the photos is excellent in my opinion.
Thanks again
I am interested in any data or conclusions you might have with regard to this as well.
Any Edward or Brett Weston photographs that you don't want to display, please send to me. Not only are they almost instantly recognizable to my eye, they evoke feelings that I don't find in the work...
I'm pretty sure that image setters are still around. It would take some experimentation because their standard is to produce lineart, copy, halftone images and separations rather than continuous...
It folds relatively easily, but easy for some is not for others.
focus gearing is a simple metal gear, I do not know the tooth count, but it is relatively fine.
I'm pretty sure that the rear...
An 8x10 "Decisive Moment." Thank you.
It does cover the "ground glass." Dependent on weather I will get some photos over the weekend.
I use a Wehman that I bought used in 2007. Primary lens is a 14" Ektar Commercial. But I also have one of the Dr. Optiik 240's that I bought from Kerry Thalman and a 19" Red dot Barrel lens that I...
Perfect, thanks.
That is beautiful. Is it a scan of a print or a negative?
Drew,
How thick are your negatives? If a 50w works with reasonable time or even a 100w that is great. Mine tend to be fairly thick and are pyrocat rather than PMK or ABC.
Thanks everyone for...
Where are people getting 150+ watt floodlights to use with Silver chloride? I have some azo, lodima, and adox. I used to get them at the local Lowes, but that was more than a decade ago. Looking for...
Michael Smith and Paula Chamlee used to teach workshops titled "Vision and Technique". It might be taught again. Before the workshop I saw what was there and accepted upside down and backward as a...
