I agree with the OP ... the lens is not fairly described ... it is clearly not in "lovely condition" and doesn't suffer from "a few cleaning streaks"
... and, if OP decides to resell it ... it...
Congrats Jim ... carbon is such a great medium ... looking forward to seeing the exhibit ... and you ... at Vaughn's carbon workshop in October ... October is one of my favorite months to shoot in...
Matt .... Beautiful, just beautiful
That had to make you smile! And what a nice looking lens.
I've already signed up for the workshop in Yosemite in October 2021 ... nothing like the experience ... Yosemite, Ansel Adams darkroom, and Vaughn Hutchins ... doesn't get any better than that ......
What a beautifully presented exhibition.
Hopefully we'll get to meet up in the Redwoods or Yosemite in 2021 ... or both!
Jim in Sacramento
Austin ... thanks for linking your interview. Love your work ... I even got to see an exhibit in Portland on one of my trips through a couple of years ago.
Congratulations on the recognition...
Well, Bob ... if you know of a better list ... please give us a link.
I found Kerry's list to be extraordinarily helpful ... I ended up choosing one of his recommendations for my kit a number of...
Merg .... always such a pleasure to see your work. It always makes me want to go out and shoot.
This is an assignment that every photography student should get ... take 1 week and shoot 20 photos within 200" of your bed.
Shooting Half Dome is easy ... shooting ordinary things is not that...
Ohhh ... I was all signed up for that one ... am going to miss it.
I was having qualms about it but was planning on sucking it up and going ... probably for the best.
Let me know when you...
I agree with Drew ... on the recommendation of my National Geographic photo-editor nephew ... I got ... and read ... all three Adams volumes and almost gave up photography. WAY, WAY too much...
That is gorgeous!
Bob ... who is the "he" you are referring to?
Here are a couple of illustrations and instruction for the Optimo ... by people who knew what they were doing and one drawing with notes by someone who didn't (me) ... but may be helpful in...
Now THAT is photography!
Congratulations.
Present.
Also a daily reader and occasional poster.
... and to John Layton ... post #429 ... as everyone knows "On Friday, the eagle flies."
And now ... we should probably return this thread to Tri ... and his lens development project.
It's not really a "strong" reaction to what you posted. It is simply how we see.
A photograph is static ... just as you said "a static artifact" ... it has nothing to do with "scanning" a scene. ...
Respectfully disagree ... Sal.
If I go out in the front yard and focus on a nearby bush (which I just did) ... the entire park scene across the street is still visible and not in focus. It may...
I'm always a little confused when people say the don't like "soft focus" lenses ... for a couple of reasons.
First ... soft focus is really how we see. You look at a specific thing, focus on...
Not what the update says at all.
Both very nice shots ... but hard to compare two different shots with different subjects under different conditions with different focal lengths.
I don't know where you're located ... but the best way to get an idea about LF is to go out with someone in your area and observe and then try some photos yourself with their gear.
Most...
Congratulations.
Also in NYC right now ... Brooklyn to be more precise ... is a curated art show looking at Stonewall's legacy through the work of LGBT artists born after the 1969 Stonewall...
Tri -- those are all beautiful but hard to tell how they compare to currently available lenses.
How about a couple of side-by-side comparison shots with your prototype and a standard soft focus...
Nothing yet.
Last update on 12/10/2018 says they'll start shipping in December and finish in March 2019.
So, apparently shipping had not started when that was posted on the 10th and they...
Wow, Vaughn ... what a great adventure for you guys to do together. Looking forward to updates.
Always loved Perceptol ... but haven't used it much since moving into alternative process printing.
Here's a link to their spec sheet ... pages 7-9 cover reusing without replenishment and...
Any time in the redwoods is special ... October is magical.
Missed it this year ... hopefully next year.
THAT is a great pictorial tutorial ... if only I were that brave!
I made it by the show this past week ... beautiful photographs.
Congratulations, Austin.
I believe they are referring to Federal Regulation - Title 36, Chapt II, Part 261, Sec. 261.57 (h) which prohibits
"possessing or using a wagon, cart or other vehicle" in Federal Wilderness Areas....
OK ... we haven't heard from the OP, v.kapoor, for a couple of weeks now ... where are you located?
Maybe we can hook you up with an 8x10 and let you have a go with one of our cameras.
Jim in...
I did 4x5 for several years and now do mostly 8x10 ... but ONLY because I do carbon contact printing with in-camera negatives primarily. I also did a toe in the water try of 11x14 but found it way...
Peter ... very nice ... congrats on your 1st image post. I'd also like to see your halo-rama version.
Really like this image ... nice composition and the juxtaposition of the bare branching and...
Bruce ... Congratulations ... a really nice honor ...and nice to see they linked the entire series of photos.
The notes show your images are 8x10 but no other info. Can you fill us in on camera,...
Greg ... nice website, by the way ... .
I have three suggestions:
1). From Portland head East up the gorge ... stopping at Multnomah Falls ... I know, I know ... heavily photographed BUT ......
Where are you located? Maybe you can meet up with one of us and try out a 4x5 and 8x10.
