What is the need of a socket with a flat lens board?

    Hi,

I was looking at this lens board and I thought
what the need of a socket with a lens board
would be, (when usually flat lens boards
    have none?

    Thank you, kind regards!

    Quick release cable release socket.

But that is just the socket on the board. To be complete the current version comes with a very short cable release from that socket to the lens. A tapered, threadless, cable release tip is also included to ensure a proper lock of your cable release into that socket.

The older version came with wire connectors that went from the socket into the shutter’s cable release.

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for your message : ) !!!

But, is there a point to it? I mean,
    what's the difference between
    connecting directly a cable release
to the lens (like with most flat boards
without a socket), and using a socket?
Is there a real need or good reason
for it, or is it just extravagance?

    Thank you again, kind regards!

Convenience! It is fast and easy, providing you have the proper cable release.

Another thing is it does provide strain relief if the cable release ever gets pulled or bumped hard. All the impact goes to the socket and not the delicate lens mechanism.
